WORLD PUMPS

October 2009

Model can solve low-flow problems Griswold Pump Co has introduced a new line of low-flow ANSI pumps designed for the severe conditions found in some process and transfer applications. The Model 811LF pump incorporates a circular concentric volute casing with a radial vane impeller making flow capacities down to 4 gpm with heads up to 920 ft possible. It also reduces excessive radial loads and minimizes the shaft vibration and deflection, which can lead to extended mean time between preventive maintenance operations. Class 150 raised-face (RF) flanges are standard on Models LF1.5x1-8AA and LF2x1-10A05, while Class 300 RF

flanges are standard on Model LF3x1.5-13A20. When operating in reducedvolume conditions, the 811LF’s radial vanes provide better hydraulic control than traditional ANSI impellers, Griswold says. The manufactured-in balance holes also reduce both axial thrust and seal-chamber pressure. The low-flow pumps are ANSIdimensional so that they can be installed without piping or base changes to existing equipment. The 811LF case and impeller can be retrofitted to an existing Griswold pump. www.griswoldpump.com

Telemetrics system for wastewater

Third generation smart control valve developed

Grundfos has developed Grundfos Remote Management, an internet-based telemetrics system that allows municipal utilities to keep wastewater and water supply systems operating cost effectively.

Flowserve has developed StarPac 3, a new version of its Valtek StarPac smart control valve. According to the company, the StarPac 3 is the only fully integrated smart control valve on the market providing full proportional integral derivative (PID) control. It features built-in process sensors, microprocessor-

The system is a follow up to the company’s Gismo telemetrics system and reportedly improves and extends on its capabilities. It is set up specifically for monitoring pump installations in sewer and water mains. System managers only need internet access, a standard browser and a password to monitor and manage their pump installations.

Changes in pump performance can be tracked using trend graphs automatically generated by the system. This can give an indication of wear or damage in the installation. Service and maintenance can be planned based on the actual condition of the installation components. Users can upload an aerial photo or map, and drag-and-drop installations to their actual location. The start-up screen then shows if there is a problem, what the problem is and the location of the affected installation. www.grundfos.com

based control, and a high-accuracy digital positioner. Improvements to the new valve include an explosion-proof housing, USB and infrared interface, updated electronics, stainless-steel options and enhanced positioner functions. www.flowserve.com

High pressure waterjet pump cuts faster Flow International Corporation, a manufacturer of ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) waterjet technology, has introduced the HyPlex Hybrid Pump, which has been designed to cut faster than any other direct drive pump on the market. The HyPlex Hybrid is rated at 60,000 psi, making it the highest-pressure direct drive pump in the industry, the company says. It features patented PAC-V technology making it possible to provide automatic pressure control. It

uses cone aperture technology to automatically maintain a true pressure signal, regardless of the orifice size or pressure setting, allowing users to switch between orifice sizes without having to change anything on the pump to accommodate the increased or decreased water flow. The HyPlex Hybrid pump also features a new seal design making the pump reportedly the longest lasting direct drive pump on the market. www.flowcorp.com
