Expecting the usual cute, crude, or caustic completion of the sentence, 1 was pleasantly surprised when I read lhc simple ending " . . . T H A N K A TEACHER!" This motlth, another hundred or so young surgeons complete their fellowship and join us as practicing hand surgeons. Reaching such a milestone should be celebrated. They should be deservedly proud of their accomplishment, lit represents muct~ hard work, dedic~tioJa, aad commitment. The Journal ~[ Harzd Surgery recognizes the importance of this occasion and offers each of you sincere congratulations. Welcome to our ranks. At the same time, I would be remiss if I did not paraphrase the clever bumper sticker "IF YOU ARE READING THIS, T H A N K . . . " ~ u fill in the blank. Remembcr, you did not come to this point in your professional ~ife solely by your own doing; none of us did. You have e~joyed Ihe guidance, assistance, and support of many others along the way. This may well be an app~oprialc time to express your appreciation. And for those of us already established in the field who might not have made use of such opportunities, r e m e m b e r . . , it's never too late.
