ANNOUNCEMENTS

THE ADHESION SOCIETY--THIRD ANNUAL TECHNICAL MEETING

A wide range of papers, covering many aspects of adhesion science and technology, will be presented at the above meeting, to take place at the Sheraton Savannah Inn and Country Club, Savannah, Georgia, USA, from 10th to 13th February, 1980. Among the topics to be discussed are adherends (bulk and/or surface characterisation of metals, polymers, wood, mineral or biological materials), polymeric materials (molecular structure-property relationships in adhesive, composite or coating applications), processing (cure monitoring technology, NDI/NDE techniques, automated application techniques, solventless systems, rheology, etc.), mechanics (fracture mechanics or micro-mechanics approaches to design and testing in adhesive joints and composites on coatings), environmental aspects (mechanical, thermal, chemical or electrical effects and accelerated testing) and adhesion (phenomena, applications and theory). Further information may be obtained from Dr L. T. Drzal, AFML/MBM, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio 45433, USA.

THIRD INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON COMPOSITE MATERIALS: 'ICCM/III' Sponsored jointly by the Metallurgic Society of the AIME (TMS-AIME), the Association pour les Mat~riaux Composites (AMAC) and the D616gation G~n6rale la Recherche Scientifique et Technique (DGRST), the above conference will take place at the Palais des Congr6s, Port Maillot, Paris, France, from 26th to 29th August, 1980. Designed to encourage the exchange of information between research and industry on the scientific and engineering aspects of fibre composites, the conference will place special emphasis on their applications. Plenary papers, original research and technical papers, workshops and discussion panels constitute the proposed format of the meeting. 79 Fibre Science and Technology 0015-0568/80/0013-0079/$02.25 © Applied Science Publishers Ltd,

ANNOUNCEMENTS

All aspects of the theory, science and technology of composite materials and structures (including glass, carbon, boron, high-modulus organic fibres, plastics, metals, ceramics and other constituent materials) will be discussed at the conference, which will encompass the following general themes: mechanical and physical properties (composites and their components); designing for--and analysis of-composite materials and structures, including computer-aided design; fracture and fatigue (analysis and prevention); economic aspects; applications (aeronautical, space and transport, non-structural, general engineering, structural performance, energy storage, etc.); fabrication methods (including injection moulding, lamination, metal infiltration, tool design and machining, and co-curing); non-destructive testing; environmental, ageing and serviceability aspects; hybrids (types, properties, costs and applications) and joints (design, adhesive bonding and mechanical fastening). Further information may be obtained from Dr A. R. Bunsell, l~cole des Mines de Paris, Centre des Mat6riaux, BP 87-91003 Evry Cedex, France.
