Since the main effect of consolidation takes place before noticeable lowering of the free surface, each phenomenon can be solved separately, and the real solution obtained by superposition. The law is incorporated in a technique for calculating the stresses and deformations in fissured rock using the finite element method. The technique is applied to 2 experimental adits of the Wagerberg tunnel amd good agreement with measured data is obtained. A second example is given.
