Filtration+Separation July/August 2016

ISO 16890 standard is coming Evaluation of air filters in accordance with EN 779 will soon be history. ISO 16890 is coming and will replace the old standard by the middle of 2018 at the latest. Freudenberg Filtration Technologies, a manufacturer of liquid and air filtration technology solutions, is supporting customers to inform themselves about important changes and ensuring they are ready to adapt to the new standard in good time. For many years, the World Health Organization and environmental

authorities have been using particle sizes to evaluate air quality and now the industry is following their lead. With the introduction of the new ISO 16890 test standard, filter efficiency will be determined on the basis of particulate classes PM 1, PM 2.5 and PM 10. This will ensure that filters are evaluated more on the basis of their actual performance helping users to select filters in a more targeted manner. Experts from Freudenberg Filtration Technologies continue to participate in the development and drawing up of the new

test standard. It has published information about the key differences between the EN 779 and the ISO 16890 test standard on

its website, including details of the new testing methodology. www.freudenberg-filter.com

Impurities extracted from highly contaminated material in one pass EDGE Innovate launched the new MC1400 to its Material Classifier Series of products at IFAT 2016. The EDGE MC1400 allows operators to extract impurities from highly contaminated material in just one pass. Utilizing controlled air as a separation medium, the MC1400 is said to be a good solution for the cleaning of compost and biomass fractions with its ability to separate heavy and mid-weight fractions from lights.

The MC1400 lets operators separate commodities into four different fractions as standard; lights (plastic, paper, film) mid-weight (wood) and heavy fractions (aggregate, glass, etc.). Ferrous metal is extracted via the overband magnet found on the heavy fraction discharge conveyor with the option of attaching an additional magnet to the midweight conveyor. With an increase feed in size of up to 400 mm (16 in), the MC1400 is ideal for organic recycling and biomass

fraction but also construction and demolition waste. Material is loaded onto the MC1400’s wide, variable speed feed conveyor which provides an even spread of material for efficient separation. Material is transferred into the enclosed separation chamber where the system of upward and suction blowers separates the material into four final products. www.edgeinnovate.com

EDGE MC1400 is claimed to reduce waste disposal costs whilst maximizing material recovery, providing the customer with high returns.

Registration open for OUTLOOK Plus Registration is now open for the second OUTLOOK Plus Latin America Conference, which will be held on 7-9 March, 2017 in São Paulo, Brazil. Delivering the latest insights and intelligence in the hygiene, personal care, and medical nonwovens industries in Latin America, the three-day conference at the Grand Hyatt São Paulo will also showcase the products and services of local and international companies. EDANA and INDA, the two global nonwovens associations organizing www.filtsep.com

Outlook Plus Latin America, will build on the success of last year’s inaugural event held in the same city, which attracted more than 250 attendees. Latin America represents a key region for future growth and investment in nonwovens. Outlook Plus Latin America features a different focus for businesses each day: • 7-8 March: Latest developments in nonwovens for the Latin American and global absorbent hygiene and personal care products markets, plus an analysis of trends in components and raw materials for those products

will be highlighted. Tabletop displays will be held on these two days.

and their role in a healthy society will be addressed.

• 9 March: Additional in-depth exploration of medical nonwovens
