This point is critical in autoimmune dermatoses as risk of malignancy is always discussed with immunosuppressant medication. This will factor into our discussion of cancer risk with mycophenolate mofetil, azathioprine, etc. as these patients with pemphigus are already at higher risk for leukemia and lymphoma. Hematologic malignancies have been reported sporadically in patients with pemphigus. In the current study, significant associations were observed between pemphigus and chronic leukemia, multiple myeloma, and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Further research is needed to confirm these findings in other cohorts.
