Making a difference – The three Rs of being part of an Orthopaedic Nursing Journal team All of us like to feel we make a difference as we go through life. Nurses and health care professionals are privileged to have many opportunities to do this. Every day we are able to reach out and touch others with what we do and say. With some luck, supportive colleagues and much enthusiasm chances to go that little bit further also arise. Being part of a team that puts together the International Journal of Orthopaedic and Trauma Nursing (IJOTN) and its predecessor, the Journal of Orthopaedic Nursing is one such opening. Journals have been shown to significantly influence what we do as orthopaedic nurses and directly affect patient care in a positive manner. Those involved with the IJOTN are already achieving this through the three Rs – reading, writing and reviewing. Well over 100 orthopaedic nurses, physiotherapists and doctors of medicine have over the years as committee members and reviewers contributed to the journal from most countries across the globe. Found inside the front cover are the names of those on the original and subsequent editorial committees have contributed to making the journal what it is today. Those responsible for review sections such as for, policy, books and literature who work continuously to present to readers what is current in orthopaedic care through the three Rs. The commitment and dedication of these friends and colleagues is essential in supporting the editors and has always been appreciated. Re-
cent changes include the stepping down of Jenny Booth and Deborah Wheeler and their valuable contribution to the Policy Review section. This has now been revised to include International Perspectives which is edited by Elaine Collins. There is a slow but continuous turnover of these contributors to the extent that Peter Davis is the only remaining member but Julie Santy, who started as an original advisory board member, is now one of the coeditors. Reviewers on the advisory board who appraise the potential articles submitted to the journal are also continually changing. They offer their time, expertise and advice for no recompense apart from their desire to see orthopaedic health care being carried forward. If you feel you might like to get more involved the editors would welcome the opportunity to talk to or contact you. We can all offer something, so do not hesitate you will be surprised at how rewarding the work can be?
