The 5th FEBS Advanced Lecture Course on Matrix Pathobiology, Signaling and Molecular Targets was held on the beautiful and picturesque island of Rhodes, Greece from the 24th to the 29th of September 2015. This international conference hosted 130 participants from 26 countries and consisted of high quality lectures on a variety of topics given by 41 globally recognized leaders in the field. The course also included 37 selected short talks by young researchers, three poster sessions (encompassing 79 posters), discussion panels, and a speakers’ corner, (ಯMeet the Expertರ) where distinguished scientists interacted with small groups of younger colleagues and students. The Organizing Committee (Chairman, Nikos K. Karamanos) ensured the conference covered broad and diverse topics. This included content regarding Matrix Pathobiology, Glycobiology and Metabolic Regulation of ECM Molecules, Interactions and Functions of Matrix Macromolecules, Cell Receptor Signaling and ECM-based Nanotechnology, Signaling and Disease Molecular Targeting, and Matrix Regulation in Health and Disease. Pioneering discoveries were formally recognized and celebrated in earnest. Professor Hideaki Nagase was awarded the IUBMB Medal for outstanding contributions. Professor Ralph D.

The conference was also packed with various social events that facilitated close interactions among scientists, especially between senior and junior investigators. Among these was a viewing of a 9dimensional (9D) movie focused on the history of Rhodes through the ages, as well as guided tours of the city and the castles of Lindos and Faliraki. The course was capped by a relaxing journey to the ancient city of Rhodes and culminated in a dinner at one of the premier restaurants housed within the city walls.
