New models in energy saving range Ebara Corporation has developed new pumps in its Save Energy (SE) series of surface pumps. Models LPD-B and FSD-B, which will be distributed in Japan by Ebara Techno-Serve Co Ltd, are reportedly the first surface pump models in Japan that directly employ premium efficiency motors.

The SE series adds energy-saving functions to standard pumps, and the new models have improved

Sump pump allows run-dry operation Vanton has developed SumpGard Model SGK PY800S, a thermoplastic pump featuring a close-coupled, cantilevered shaft that does not need immersed bearings prone to fail in caustic, acidic and abrasive applications, and allows run-dry operation with no damage to the pump. The shaft also reduces headroom requirements. Hard coupling of the drive shaft to the motor shaft reduces height above the mounting plate by about 50%, allowing the pump to fit in restricted areas, while lowering the centre of gravity. All wetted components, including a heavy wall shaft sleeve, are molded of solid polypropylene, PVDF or CPVC,

LPD-B motor-driven in-line pump has a bore size of 32 to 80 mm and an output: 0.25 to 11 kW, while the FSD -B motor-driven single-suction centrifugal pump has bores size (suction) of 32 to 80 mm and an output of 0.25 to 11 kW. According to Ebara, the SE series SSLD pump, which was launched in May, has the highest energy saving level in the market of any permanent magnet synchronous motor (PM motor) that deducts energy consumption at approximately 50% or more, when compared with Ebara’s conventional models. The newly released models LPD-B and FSD-B will become the standard models of the SE series. These help fulfil the higher efficiency levels required by pump facilities according to various regulations, guidelines and specifications which require higher efficiency due to the purpose of energy conservation. EBARA is planning to release models LPD-B and FSD-B to the global market after 2011.

eliminating corrosion, delamination and also the wicking that can affect plastic-lined and glass fibre pumps. Since all wetted surfaces are chemically inert, the pump is also rated for handling of reagent grade chemicals, high purity water and other fluids that must remain free of contamination. The Sump-Gard pumps are available in lengths to 1.2 m with motors to 37 kW. The pump handles flows to 3028 lpm and heads to 55 m at temperatures to 135°C. Impellers are offered in closed and semi-open configurations, as well as recessed for pumping of slurries containing solids or stringy materials. www.vanton.com

overall efficiency compared to the company’s current LPD in-line pump and FSD single-suction centrifugal pump through the use of a premium efficiency motor. This is equivalent to the highest efficiency level of induction motors with IE3, according to IEC standards.

Mechanical seal copes with VOCs

Scenic’s new LD-389 mechanical seal for VOC emissions.

limited seal space. The seal can tolerate ±0.5mm radial run-out if the system fails due to vibration.

The inboard seal has a stationary seal head assembly and a dual balance face which allows the primary sealing point to be closed in the event of reverse pressure – the seal operates either un-pressurized or pressurized application. Non-wetted components are kept from process contamination and the exclusive components are congregated as a sub-assembly. The seal has a compact design which allows it to fits precisely to most pumps with

The outboard seal is mounted with bi-directional pumping ring to boost buffer or barrier circulation and incorporates an engineered diversion block under the gland to direct the flow of the circulating fluid. The gland has two common outlet connections in which either one must be plugged depending on shaft rotation. Because most volatile processes are combustible and may ignite flame when two metal parts collide due to

seal failure, the seal features a fabricated protective device in the gland and drive collar as a precautionary measure. www.scenic-seals.com
