Message from the guest editors We are proud to present this special issue of Procedia Social and Behavioral Sciences, containing the selected papers presented at the V Anniversary Scientific Conference «Early Childhood Care and Education», which took place in Moscow on May 12-14, 2016 at Lomonosov Moscow State University. This the major event dedicated to early years psychology and education in the Eurasian region. More than 1900 scientists, official representatives of federal and regional ministries and educational specialists took part in the Conference activities on behalf of 61 regions and 27 foreign countries, including China (guest of honor), Albania, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, Peru, Portugal, Serbia, Singapore, Slovenia, Sweden, Tajikistan, Ukraine, United States, Uzbekistan. The Conference was welcomed on behalf of the Chairman of the State Duma S.E. Naryshkin; Minister of Education and Science of Russia D.V. Livanov; Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China; Civic Chamber of Russia; Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States; Russian-Chinese Committee for Peace, Friendship and

Development; Russian-Chinese Friendship Society. Professors Säljö R. (Sweden) and Sobkin V.S. (Russia) delivered the lectures dedicated to L.S. Vygotsky’s 120th birth anniversary. The speakers presented their reports with general aim to bring the major issues of the early education and the prospects for further research in this field up for discussion, showcase the latest studies in early education, enhance collaboration and network cooperation in the field of early education. Particular attention was paid to such issues as the assessment of education quality, math skills and speech development, development of children’s discretion, patriotic education, education policy, as well as methods of training of education specialists. Among the distinguished speakers were Asmolov A.G. (Director of the Federal Institute for Development of Education of Russia), Aires J.Q. (Director of Vygotsky Institute in Portugal); Cryer D. (University of North Carolina, U.S.A.); Volosovets T.V. (Director of the Institute for Childhood, Family and Education Studies, Russia); Young M. (Director of the Center for Childhood Development at the Chinese Scientific Research Foundation, USA); Elly Singer (Universities of Utrecht and Amsterdam, Netherlands) and others. The most interesting and significant reports were completed to articles and reviewed by scientists specialized in the related field. As a result a total of high quality papers were selected and accepted for publication in Procedia Social and Behavioral Sciences. We are delighted to mention the organizations which kindly embraced and ensured the high quality of the Conference: the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, Russian Academy of Education, the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO, Russian Psychological Society, World Bank, Federal Institute for Development of Education. The Conference was included in the Major Events Plan of the Eurasian Association of Universities and was timed to the Year of Education in the Commonwealth of Independent States. We have special thanks for Elselvier for the great opportunity to publish the works of our colleagues and make them available for the scientists all over the world. We hope you will find these papers interesting and useful and we would be sincerely glad if this publication promotes further international communication and interaction inside the scientific community.
