Patents Multi-layer gasket employing sealing rings Applicant: Cometic Gasket Inc, USA This patent describes a multi-layer cylinder head gasket for an internal combustion engine that includes a sealing ring secured to the central layer of the gasket around each cylinder bore. The idea behind the invention is to combine the benefit of individual hollow metal O-ring seals with a multi-layer- steel gasket. This combination provides the enhanced sealing of the O-rings around the cylinder openings while eliminating the need to machine grooves for the rings. It also eliminates the need to use individual O-rings and the
machining and preparation time associated with these additional seals. Employing the sealing rings as part of a multi-layer-steel gasket prevents bore distortion due to high clamping loads and cylinder pressures. Currently, multi-layersteel gaskets typically can withstand between 125 and 140bar cylinder pressure without affecting bore distortion. By incorporating the sealing rings in the gasket an additional pressure of approximately 70bar is possible without affecting bore distortion. Patent number: WO 2005/060516 Inventor: R. Gas impermeable tube joint and method of forming same Applicant: Dayco Products LLC, USA This patent is concerned with forming a gas impermeable joint (12) in a fluid system. It is intended for application such as vehicle fuel filling pipes, to reduce emissions through permeation, and building heating systems to reduce oxygenation of the hot water. The tube (14) has a metallic barrier layer (18) between inner and outer plastic layers (20, 22).The plastic pipe layers are forced into
contact with plastic surfaces (32, 34) of the fitting (16). At least one of the pipe layers is welded to the fitting. The welding may include: spin welding, hot plate, vibration or ultrasonic. The metallic barrier layer (18) extends substantially into the component (16), thus improving the gas impermeability of the joint. Patent number: WO 2005/060612 Inventors: J.E. Mobley, M.O. Metallic flat gasket with strip conductor and sensor element Applicant: Reinz-DichtungsGmbH, Germany This patent is concerned with cylinder head gaskets that incorporate sensors for the measurement of the conditions in the engine. In particular it refers to sensors that may be placed directly behind the cylinder bore sealing bead. A bead
is provided on the surface of one of the gasket layers to surround the sensor, and strip connector. This provides an installation that does not impose any pressure on the sensor during assembly. Patent number: WO 2005/059347 Inventors: B. Ruess et al. Publication date: 30 June 2005
Production of hermetic tubular joint comprising local and initial added thickness Applicant: Vallourec Mannesmann Oil & Gas France, France This invention is also related to hydrocarbon production tubing and is a variation of the threaded 12
joint that can be provided with additional sealing by plastic deformation after assembly. Patent number: WO 2005/064219 Inventors: L. Dubedout et al. Publication date: 14 July 2005
Metal cylinder head gasket without a spacing layer Applicant: Federal-Mogul Sealing Systems GmbH, Germany The invention relates to a metal cylinder head gasket of an internal combustion engine, comprising a functional layer (2) and an annular support (4). The functional layer has one full bead (6) around the combustion chamber. A feature of the gasket is that the annular support (4) comprises one full
bead (8) which is defined on the functional layer (2), and the annular support (4) also comprises one bead (10), arranged on the side of the full bead (8) oriented away from the combustion chamber (1). Patent number: WO 2005/061931 Inventors: K. Schmitt and R. Flemming Publication date: 7 July 2005
