thermally decomposed by dry distillation with the heat of combustion, producing a combustible gas. A combustion furnace combusts the combustible gas introduced from the gasification furnace. The gasification furnace is supplied with an amount of oxygen required to burn the portion of the waste material and to thermally decompose the remainder while at the same time the amount of oxygen supplied to the gasification furnace is controlled to maintain, at a substantially constant value, the temperature of the combustible gas during the dry distillation of the waste material. The gasification furnace is also supplied with an amount of oxygen to accelerate the combustion and ashing of the waste material when the dry distillation is finished. When the dry distillation is finished, the amount of oxygen supplied to the gasification furnace is increased to accelerate the combustion and ashing of the waste material if the temperature in the gasification furnace increases up to a predetermined temperature or higher as the combustion of the waste material progresses and also if the temperature of the combustible gas drops from the substantially constant value to a predetermined temperature or lower.

5213694 WATER TREATMENT CONTROL SYSTEM FOR TREATING COOLING TOWER MAKEUP WATER Marshall Craig assigned to American Hydro Systems Inc An apparatus and method for controlling the amount and concentration of make-up water and chemicals introduce into the recirculating water of a cooling tower system. A float operated make-up valve controls the addition of make-up water to the tower. As make-up water is added to the tower a vacuum is produced at an injector valve which draws chemicals from a chemical holding tank into the make-up water, thereby allowing precise control of the chemical concentration in the make-up liquid. Further, a bleed valve is provided which is responsive to the vacuum produced at the injector valve and bleeds a portion of the recirculating water to waste.

A slurry pumping method and an apparatus to deliver slurry waste from factories to a filter press for solid-liquid separation. In this apparatus, a pair of laterally or vertically arranged diaphragm type pumping devices are activated by hydraulic cylinders, each consisting of a main cylinder and a subcylinder directly connected to the main cylinder, to introduce slurry from the slurry tank and deliver it under pressure by a resilient diaphragm of each pumping device to the filter press where it is processed for solidliquid separation. One of the diaphragm type pumping devices is first started, followed by the other, thus alternately and repetitively activating the two pumping devices to achieve continuous operation of the slurry pumping process. When the processing is completed, the two hydraulic cylinders of both diaphragm type pumping devices are stopped by controlling the sleeve valves. In this way, an effective slurry pumping can be achieved.

Medical wastes are placed in a medical waste container which is then placed in a closed apparatus body. The container is heated by a heater so that the medical wastes are sterilized and melted or softened. The container containing the medical wastes is then compressed and molded by a compression device. The compression-molded product containing the medical wastes and the container is then discharged from a door of the apparatus body. Alternatively, medical wastes are heat-sterilized by operating a microwave generator. The microwave generator is controlled by detecting the concentration of the combustible gases contained in the exhaust gases discharged from a closed apparatus body, the concentration of hydrogen chloride gas and/or a ratio of reflected power to incident power by using a power monitor connected to a waveguide of the microwave generator. At the same time, hot air can also be circulated.
