A process for treating paint sludge containing polymeric paint resin comprising mixing a cured powder made from previously processed paint sludge with the paint sludge to form a powder/sludge mixture; heating the mixture for a period of time and to a temperature sufficient to volatilize water and VOCs present within the paint sludge and to cure the paint resin; and agitating the mixture during heating in a manner to facilitate heat transfer to the paint sludge without substantially increasing the cohesive and adhesive properties of the mixture.
