form a stable, solid gel. Once the solid gel has formed, steam-flooding, water-flooding or a carbon-dioxide oil recovery process is commenced in a zone where a solid gel has not formed.

4903768 METHOD FOR PROFILE CONTROL OF ENHANCED OIL RECOVERY Paul Shu assigned to Mobil Oil Corporation A process for profile control in a high permeability zone of a formation. A water flooding or carbon dioxide stimulation enhanced oil recovery (EOR) process is conducted in an an oil-containing formation having a high permeability zone. After breakthrough occurs, the EOR process is ceased. The high permeability zone is heated to a temperature of 300 degrees F. or higher by steam injection. Subsequently, steam injection is ceased and a temperature activated mixture is injected into the high permeability zone where it forms a solid gel. Thereafter, an EOR process can be used to remove hydrocarbons from a low permeability zone.

4904090 TEMPERATURE SENSING ARRANGEMENT Colin C Oliver, Slough, United Kingdom assigned to Thorn EMI plc A temperature sensor is incorporated within a housing having a silicon window through which infra-red radiation can enter. Mounted on a support structure is a semiconductor fabrication consisting of a reference junction and a sensing junction, covered with a black absorber. The reference junction is responsive to the temperature of the housing, whereas the sensing j unction is responsive to the temperature of the housing and also the temperature of a remote zone from which infra-red radiation can enter the housing via the window. A Peltier heater/cooler controls the temperature of the housing, which temperature is monitored by a sensor to provide a measure of that of the remote zone.

A device for detecting ultraviolet radiation comprises a measuring head (101) to receive the ultraviolet radiation and comprising a filter (112) which emits fluorescent light in an amount dependent on the amount of ultraviolet radiation. The fluorescent light emitted is monitored to obtain a measure of the amount of ultraviolet radiation. A means (115) may be included to compensate for the temperature dependence of the filter.

4904987 AIR SAMPLING AND ALARM CONTROL SYSTEM William T Fleming, Hill S Lalin An air sampling and alarm control system for detecting the presence of a toxic contaminant in the atmosphere and for providing an audible alarm when insufficient gas flow is present in the system to adequately test for the presence of the contaminant. The alarm control is provided by a pressure switch which is electrically connected in circuit with an audible alarm and pneumatically connected in circuit with the gas flow line connecting the sampling pump to the sampling detector.
