Motors surpass need for energy efficiency

Pump hire specialist Sykes Pumps has introduced a new energy efficient, 6 in pump unit which houses a Lister engine running on 100% biodiesel (B100).

WEG has developed a range of electric motors which it says can surpass IEC requirements for energy efficiency.

The Sykes Enviropump is fully bunded and also benefits from a quiet operating volume, with typical noise levels being 65 Dba at 7 m, so it can be operated day or night without any concerns about noise pollution. It has a fully filtered vacuum prime system with zero discharge, and the unit is also fitted with biodegradable oils.

The max head is 32 m, with max flow of 60 l/s and max solids of 52 mm. The fuel tank capacity is 175 l. Sykes says that the new environmentally-friendly pump is designed for water companies and government agencies that have strict environmental policies and are keen to keep their carbon footprints to a minimum. The new WQuattro line of motors have a hybrid design which WEG says helps them achieve the highest efficiency in the market and surpass the IEC 60034-30:2009, a harmonised IE (International Efficiency) grading standard, which is part of the EU’s new eco-design directive 2005/32/EC. The WQuattro motor is environmentally-friendly and has no energy losses from its rotor. As a result it demands less energy from the grid and there is a lower total cost of ownership, a reduction in CO2 emissions, and a faster return on investment. The WQuattro is a hybrid motor integrating a conventional threephase distributed winding, and a rotor with an aluminium cage and internal high energy magnets.

New version of rotary lobe pump at IFAT NETZSCH Mohnopumpen GmbH has developed a new version of its TORNADO rotary lobe pump. The pump will be introduced at the IFAT Entsorga show which takes place from 7-11 May in Munich, Germany. The new version eliminates any possibility of transmission damage due to leakage or contamination. This makes the WQuattro suitable for direct on-line starting and acceleration up to synchronous speed. With this type of operation the motor speed does not vary with load, despite overload variations, or cases of voltage drop, as long as the mains frequency is kept constant. 3D online tool combines pump components Raja-Lovejoy has developed a free online configuration tool for pumpmotor combinations. Fluidware3D allows designers to configure a 3D model of a complete component group in three steps. Users can choose from more than 5000 different pump models from over 100 pump manufacturers. Once the user has registered, he or she begins the configuration of his or her component group by selecting the pump. The user chooses the manufacturer, the basic model and the respective alternative. Then the appropriate motor is selected according to type of motor, motor speed, performance in kilowatts, overall size, design and flange diameter.
