NEXJROLZZTIC PRESCRIBINGIN THE COMMUNITY IN ROMEFROM1986 To 1989. S. Spila Alegiani, G. Diana*, & R. Raschetti. Lab. di Epidemiologia e Biostatistica & *Lab. di Fannacologia, Istituto Superiore di Sanita, Roma, Italy. To assess neuroleDtic xxescribincr to outxxkients in a larqe community over a &&xlof years; we perfked a retrospecti+e analysis of all prescriptions delivered under the National Health Service in the province of Rome from 1986 to 1989. In the four years of the study, the neuroleptic-prescribed number of individuals ranued from 1.31% to 1.43% of the total wpulation. The most frequent-l? prescribed drug was haloperidol: ‘f1.3% of the individuals were receiving it as the only neuroleptic therapy. The majority of neuroleptic-treated patients, 82.5 % of the total in 1989, received a single neuroleptic rather than a combination of drugs. The prevalence of people prescribed neuroleptics increased with the age, the mean age ranging from 40.5 years (subjects prescribed haloperidol and fluphenazine decanoate) to 70.3 years (subjects prescribed promazine). About half of the subjects prescribed in 1989, received only one prescription in the 12 months. The study provide extensive data on individual use of a large number of neuroleptic drugs in a large community. Because it permits identification of a large population exposed to drugs and allows a lengthy prescribing history to be constructed, the procedure used is a powerful tool to detect unwanted effects of neuroleptics and provide clues to the epidemiology of psychotic disorders.

study we have observed that during fever a previous In rabbits by E.Coli endotoxin or interleukin-1P induced in calcium concentration in CSF was significantly total values (Palmi et al., Pharmacol. We have now by using systematically investigated CSF and plasma levels of Ca, Na, rabbit by using an HPLC-conductimetric K and Mg in the rt s.e.m. detection method. The mean mM concentrations found (plasma) from eight untreated animals bearing in CSF and chronically implanted cannulas into the lateral ventricle and (135.52 + 8.38); I<, the cisterna magna were: Na, 138.2022.83 (5.02aO.10); Mg, 0.85t-0.03 (0.69+0.02); Ca, 3.8350.10 1.38kO.05
