HANDOUT New Foods May Take Time. Yarrington C. 2016. Nutrition Matters, Inc, 316 N Barstow St, Suite 1, Eau Claire, WI 54703. Handout, 50/$12. Young children may need to be offered new foods many times before they accept them. Help your child learn to eat new foods with 6 easy steps.—Nutrition Matters, Inc. This handout is wonderful for parents with young children. It particularly applies to children aged 6 months up to 8 years. It encourages eating a variety of fruits and vegetables and sends positive messages about picky eating and how to work through it. Instead of solving picky eating at mealtimes, this handout guides and advises parents how to involve their children in the whole food experience: grocery shopping, choosing recipes, and preparing meals. New Foods May Take Time is a visually stimulating handout

with colorful information and pictures on the front and back sides. The back of the handout provides parents with ideas to make healthy meal and snack times fun with variations of simple recipes, fun food shapes, and fun food names. The simple instructions and pictures make it easy to replicate these ideas in the home. Throughout the handout, there are quotations from other parents that readers will relate to. The peer messages are positive but show parents

that it is not always easy and children may not love all foods. Overall there are 6 helpful strategies discussed in this handout; if the first 1 or 2 strategies do not work, parents can remain hopeful. New Foods May Take Time is a helpful handout for parents regardless of the amount of time the messages have to be explained. The strategies are explained fully and are easy to understand. It could be provided to pediatric offices or used as a handout at workshops, grocery stores, or farmers’ markets, among other uses.
