New masterbatches for greenhouse films Italian manufacturer Viba Group has introduced new agrochemical-resistant masterbatches for polyethylene film for use in greenhouse applications. UV stabilizers added to films to prolong life include benzophenone, carbon black, UV quenchers and HALS. However, agrochemicals, such as halogens and pesticides based on sulphur, can have an adverse effect on the stabilizer and consequently the film. Viba says that it has developed masterbatches to include additives to provide a high degree of resistance to pesticides.

Viba Group has developed new masterbatches for greenhouse polyethylene film.

These masterbatches have been added to the Vibatan range. Vibatan PE UV Master 03642, 03652 and 03654 have been specifically developed for the UV stabilization of agricultural greenhouse films. They have been developed with a special HALS with very low pKa values, which make them more resistant to pesticides compared with traditional HALS. This makes the masterbatches much more suitable to be used in the most critical applications, says the company. Contact: Viba Group Website: www.vibagroup.com

Perrite adds new compounds to flame-retardant range UK compounder Perrite has extended its flame-retardant compounds offering with the introduction of a new, halogen- and antimonyfree, low smoke V-0 polycarbonate and a PC/ ABS blend to its Perlex and Ronfalin ranges. The company adds that Perlex R5550 is a polycarbonate (PC) and has a flammability rating of UL 94 V-0 at 1.5mm and 3.0mm. Perlex R5550 is available as a transparent compound with or without additional UV resistance. Ronfalin C110FR is a

PC/ABS blend and has a flammability rating of UL 94 V-0 at 1.6mm and 5VA at 3.0mm. According to Perrite, all are available in a wide range of special effect colours such as, pearlescent, fluorescent and metallic for super visual impact. The two new materials now bring the total number of Perrite’s plastic compounds certified by Underwriters Laboratories (UL), the internationally recognised database for flame retardancy, to 68. UL certification now includes both IEC and ISO ratings

for plastics. The new materials will typically be used for the manufacture of electrical appliance components. The new products complement Perrite’s existing range of halogenfree, flame-retardant compounds which include: halogen-free polypropylene for injection moulding and extrusion applications, halogen-free Vitamide polyamide, halogen-free PC and halogen-free PC/ABS. Perrite is an independent thermoplastic compounding business based in Warrington,

UK and Johor Baru, Malaysia. The company is part of the Compounding Division of Vita Group. The company specializes in the supply of compounded products to the injection moulding industry and is a key supplier of special thermal insulation products for flexible, offshore oil pipelines. Perrite says it manufactures and distributes a wide range of standard and custom compounded polymers including polypropylene, polycarbonate, polystyrene, POM, ASA, and PC/ABS.
