News Item: Fire Information Bulletin The Fire Research Station Library is testing public interest in a 'current awareness service' based on the monthly abstracts bulletin currently circulated to staff. The 'Fire Information Bulletin' contains abstracts and full bibliographic details of journal articles, reports, books, standards and conference papers. This represents the monthly input to the FRS Library in-house database FLAIR, and will provide a unique up-dating service on the fire sciences. It will be particularly valuable to those who have no library/information service and need to be kept informed on fire-related publications. The 'Fire Information Bulletin' contains approximately 200 references per month, arranged under nine subject headings. These include: fire occurrences and statistics; fire/explosion hazards in industry; fire hazards in buildings; fire behaviour of materials; combustion (causes and development); detection; extinction; fire fighting; human behaviour and means of escape. FRS publications can be ordered direct from the FRS Library. A back-up service for photocopying journal articles is also offered, subject to copyright and availability. Cover-price will be £5.00 per issue, or £50.00 per year. If you are interested in this new service and would like to see sample pages, please contact: FRS Library Information & Bookshop Services, Fire Research Station, Borehamwood, Hertfordshire UK, WD6 2BL. Tel.: 081 953 6177; Direct dial: 0923 665070/1/2/3; Fax: 081 207 5299.
