hank you for publishing the article by Montgomery on health care and politics (Montgomery, 2012). The author provides concise information on how nurses can get involved in health policy issues. Reaching out to elected legislators and establishing a professional relationship is great advice. Nurses often devote all their professional energy to the care of patients, while never considering policy issues that affect their practice. As we approach a new horizon in health care delivery, it’s imperative that nurses take an active role in health policy issues. I look forward to the

remaining installments in this three-part series by Montgomery, and I’m proud to be a member of a nursing organization that accepts political advocacy as part of our professional responsibility.
