We conducted a retrospective study of 30 patients who sought. Service of Dentistry, University Cruzeiro do Sul, with a diagnosis of temporomandibular disorders (TMD) in the period from January 2002 to January 2006. The images obtained through nuclear magnetic resonance offer a better visualization of the disturbances and anatomy of TMJ when compared to other auxiliary diagnosis methods. Aim: Check the signals and symptoms relationship through clinical exams of TMD patients with results obtained from the nuclear magnetic resonances. Materials and methods: Thirty patients with signs and symptoms of temporomandibular disfunction were submitted to clinical evaluations and subsequent exam of magnetic nuclear resonance. Results: There was a respectively result of 56.7% (Kappa = 0.1) and 56.7 (Kappa = 0) in left and right sides. Conclusion: We found no relation between the disc displacement clinical diagnosis and the magnetic nuclear resonance. Conflict of interest: None declared.

Van der Woude Syndrome is a genetic autosomal dominant condition that affects embryologic facial development. Around 3% of patients with syndromic cleft lip and palate present Van der Woude Syndrome. It is characterized by two labial pits or elevations in the lower lip considered patoneumonic to the syndrome, cleft lip with or without cleft palate and dental agenesis. Its genetic origin is traced to IRF6 gene (Interferon Regulating Factor 6) in charge of coding IRF6 protein which plays a predominant role in embryological facial development. This is a clinical case presentation of a family group that presents van der Woude Syndrome affecting 3 generations to date and treatment of subsequent sequels for non treated clefts. Conflict of interest: None declared. doi:10.1016/j.ijom.2011.07.995 28 Takayasu’s artheritis: a case report P. Campos, G. Passalacqua ∗ , V. Bisphosphonates are used in the treatment of patients with bone metastases or osteoporosis. The drug reduces bone resorption, promotes osteoblastic activity, inhibits osteoclast recruiting and promotes osteoclast apoptosis. The association between the use of bisphosphonates and extractions may lead to maxillary osteonecrosis. This report describes the clinical case of an oncologic patient treated with zoledronic acid who developed maxillary osteonecrosis after an extraction. The surgical treatment consisted of partial maxillectomy associated with low-level laser therapy. The patient recovered uneventfully and has been receiving dental treatment for oral rehabilitation. Takayasu’s arteritis is a chronic granulomatous disease that affects the medium sized and large vessels. Their causes are still unknown. The disease is characterized by inflammation and stenosis of the vessels, and shows preference for the aorta and its major branches, pulmonary artery and coronary arteries, reason why it is also known as aortic arch syndrome. It begins like a periarteritis to progress to panarteritis. It mainly affects women during the second to third decades of life, beginning between 15 and 30 years of age. The female exceeds the male by a ratio of 8-9:1, this gender predilection is also seen in children. This disease is distributed worldwide, but it has been related to ethnicity, specifically associated with the Asian race. It is estimated that the incidence would be 100 times higher in East Asian countries compared to western countries; however, the small number of studies that report the frequency of the disease makes impossible to compare the incidence rates. The incidence of Takayasu’s arteritis in Chile is unknown. Literature indicates an incidence of 2.6 cases per million per year in the U.S. The authors reports the case of a Chilean 48 year old male, diagnosed with Takayasu’s arteritis, with 19 years of evolution who by reason of his illness had to undergo multiple bypass surgeries.
