Desalinated water is a key pillar of Singapore’s water supply, in addition to water from local catchments, imported water and NEWater (ultra-clean, high-grade reclaimed water). There are currently two desalination plants with a total capacity of 378 541 m3 (100 million gallons) a day, and another three plants in the pipeline – the Keppel Marina East Desalination Plant is one of them. In January, Keppel Infrastructure – through its wholly-owned subsidiary Marina East Water Pte Ltd – signed the 25-year water purchase agreement with PUB for the Keppel Marina East Desalination Plant. The plant will be constructed under the design, build, own and operate model, and will produce 137 000 m3 (about 30 million gallons) of fresh drinking water per day. entair Plc’s board of directors recently unanimously approved a plan to separate the firm into two independent, publicly-traded companies. According to Pentair, the move will create a leading global water company that focuses on smart, sustainable water and fluid-processing applications, and a high-performance electrical company that aims to improve utilisation, lower costs and maximise customer uptime. ‘We have built two strong, high-performing businesses with the operating acumen and culture to thrive as two independent companies,’ explained 16

Randall Hogan, Chairman and CEO, Pentair. ‘Separating Water and Electrical to create two pure-play companies is the next logical step in the evolution of Pentair and is consistent with our strategy to continually enhance shareholder value. Both companies will have the focus, talent and flexibility to grow profitably, both organically and through acquisitions.’ Pentair expects to complete the separation in the second quarter of 2018, subject to meeting customary conditions. It is set to occur through a tax-free spin-off of Electrical by Pentair to its shareholders. Upon completion, Electrical will
become an independent publicly-traded company and shareholders will receive shares on a pro rata basis. Water is expected to maintain Pentair’s existing incorporation and tax residency and it is anticipated that Electrical will have a similar incorporation and tax residency.
