Preface to Special Issue of selected papers from the 2013 International Applied Science and Precision Engineering Conference This Special Issue presents 21 papers selected from the 2013 International Applied Science and Precision Engineering Conference (ASPEC2013) which was held from November 18 to 22, 2013, at Sun Moon Lake in central Taiwan. ASPEC2013 covers a wide range of fundamental studies, technical innovations and industrial applications by applying the knowledge of applied science, technology, and techniques. Papers, from the conference, focusing at the engineering modelling by employing applied mathematical approaches are recommended to be submitted to this special issue. All of the papers submitted to the conference were first subject to examination by at least two independent reviewers prior to the conference. These selected and suitably extended papers subsequently underwent a rigorous peer-review process in the on-line system of Applied Mathematical Modelling. Acceptance into this Special Issue was based on completion of the reviewers’ recommended, mandatory changes and, examination by the Guest Editor, and the final decision by the Editor in Chief. It is expected to be a key issue related to engineering problem modellings for industrial engineers and academic researchers. Lastly, I would like to sincerely thank all contributing reviewers and authors. I would also like to acknowledge the Administrative Editor of the journal whose constant help and advice with the process of publishing this issue was invaluable. Special thanks must be given to the Editor in Chief for his kind support to the publication of this issue.
