VOL 5 NO 3 SEPTEMBER 1992

AUSTRALIAN C R ~ C A LCARE

It is now time to call for Abstracts for Free Papers for our 1993 Nursing Seminar Day which will be held at the Hyatt Kingsgate Hotel, Kings Cross on 30th April 1993. This meeting is to be held in conjunction with the NSW Branch of ANZICS Continuing Education Meeting on the 1st and 2nd of May 1993. The Conference Convening Sub-committee is now working on the program for that day and we hope to present an interesting program with a Nursing Guest Speaker, local well known speakers and there will be five free paper presentations. "Call for Abstract" forms will be mailed to all members with the next mailing, and anyone who is not a member, but who would like to submit an abstract for a free paper can obtain details by telephoning the Secretary and leaving your name and address on the answerphone (02) 476 1411. Interstate CACCN members are also welcome to submit abstracts and attend our State meeting. As the year draws to an end, CACCN (NSW Branch) is calling for nominations from members who are interested in being elected to the Executive Committee of the State Branch. Education meetings are held approximately every month, and Executive meetings held every two -three months. Members of the Executive are expected to attend meetings, represent the Confederation on Committees and participate in the work of the organisation at Sub-committee level. If you are interested in nominating for Committee, you will receive the forms in the mail by the end of September. Ask two of your friends (who are members) to nominate you and return the form before 9th October 1992 with a short curriculum vitae. An election will then be held and the names of the new Executive members will be announced at the Annual General Meeting.

The Annual General Meeting (21st November 1992) will be held before a dinner meeting at the Resort Hotel, Brighton. We invite you to join us after the AGM for dinner and to listen to an interesting speaker. If you wish to obtain tickets for the dinner ($35.00 per head) please phone the Secretary on (02) 476 1411 and leave a message on the answerphone. At the Annual General Meeting, we will be asking members to ratify a number of changes to the Constitution. These changes are necessary to bring the document up to date following the change of name of the Association, and do not involve any more structural changes to the organisation or its operation. The CACCN (NSW Branch) has really grown and developed in the last two years. If you are a member, we invite you to become involved with our educational meetings, conferences and committees. If you have friends who work in any of the very diverse areas of critical care, please get some membership forms and sign them up! We hope to see you at the scientific meeting in Auckland in October. Remember the Nursing Standards workshop on 15th October 1992. Look for the notice in this issue. LORRAINE FERGUSON PRESIDENT

were both of a scientific and descriptive nature and covered a large range of topics that updated those present on current critical care issues. The social activities were highly successful, giving participates an opportunity to mix with old friends and colleagues and meet new ones on an informal basis. As usual, the Trade brought their considerable range of wares for all to view, and we thank them for their participation. Although it really makes one wonder what next they will be able to connect to a computer! Planning is already under way for the next state conference, which will be held down at the Gold Coast, the venue yet to be determined. August is that time of the year for the Annual General Meeting, held on the 20th at the QNU building. The numbers attending the meeting and the numbers nominated for positions is highly indicative of the growing size of the Branch. We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank members of our outgoing Management Committee whose hard work, dedication and commitment to the organisation over the past two years has been significant and is greatly appreciated. They are: Cheryl Burns: President Anne Volter: Treasurer Deborah Locke: Committee Member

I am sure that Chris will continue the excellent work of her predecessor.
