An appendix deals with the present industrial situation in Japan (Equipments and Techniques). KUMAKURA reports on a metal compression test, using Teflon films and MoSz as a lubricant. Large deformations with little bulging of the specimen and conditions of constant low friction are observed. (4 pp., 4 fig., 5 ref.) IMAIZUMI reports on a new machine for testing the wear resistance of timber. A combination of rubbing, sand erosion and impact action is used.
