Abstract One of the physics goals of the NA61/SHINE experiment [1] is to perform new hadron production measurements in proton-Carbon interactions at 30 GeV. This data will be used to constrain the prediction of neutrino fluxes for the T2K experiment at J-PARC [2]. For precise predictions of the T2K neutrino beam parameters the measurements were performed on two different types of targets: thin carbon target and the replica of the actual target of the T2K experiment [3]. The preliminary results on π+ and π− inelastic cross sections at thin carbon target from 2007 pilot run are presented. Keywords: Pion cross-sections, T2K neutrino flux predictions, NA61/SHINE In the NA61/SHINE experiment particle identification was possible using energy loss measurements ( dE dx ) in active volume of the TPCs and time-of-flight information from ToF detectors [4]. In order to obtain pion yields three different analyses were developed: energy loss measurements, combined energy loss and time-offlight measurements, and analysis of negatively charged particles referred to as the h− . The three different approaches give consistent results within quoted systematic errors for the negative pion case (see Fig. 1). The continuity is observed for the positive pion analysis.
