releases

l3S 4843 (Sterile intravascular cannula units for single use): this revision of BS 4843 extends its scope to cover intraarterial use; luer lock fitting is specified for cannula’hub. Performance requirements cover small diameter cannulae and low yield point materials. The resistance to breakage on bending is now part of the standard IS0 symbol ‘single use’ allowed in marking. DD 157 (Methods for the determination of mechanical properties of metal knee joint and side member assemblies for use in lower limb orthoses): this draft for development is being issued in the hope that manufacturers of orthoses will carry out tests in accordance with the methods described, which may yield valuable data and assist in the design of more efficient and aesthetic orthoses. At present there is no recognized test method for orthoses joint assemblies, for which there has been a longstanding need. Copies of BS 4843 and DD 1.57may be obtained from: BSI Sales, Linford Wood, Milton Keynes, . Price each: g19.10 (27.64 to BSI subscribing members).

international

standards

BS 5750(Quality systems) has now been accepted as the basis for development of the IS0 9000 series of international standards, all of which deal with quality systems and management. In future, BS 5750 and the IS0 9000 series will be identical and dual numbered in the interests of international harmonization and trade. It is expected that the documents will also become European Standards later this year with each part having an EN designation. A small number of additional quality system elements have been included in the standard and other elements are enhanced. As a result of these revisions, BSI licensees who would like additional information can obtain guidance from the Certification and Assessment Department.
