The p o s i t i o n of breakdown in an inductive w i n d i n g - - s u c h a s a t r a n s f o r m e r s e c o n d a r y w i n d i n g - - i s located by connecting its ends to e a r t h points through inductive r e a c t a n c e s , and applying a high t e s t voltage a c r o s s the p r i m a r y , so that a h i g h - f r e q u e n c y a r c i n g d i s c h a r g e o c c u r s at the fault point. The r a t i o of the voltages a c r o s s the r e a c t a n c e s i s indicative of the p o s i t i o n of the point of breakdown.
This is a fabric fault detecting s y s t e m for the r o t a t i n g d r u m type of knitting m a c h i n e . It c o m p r i s e s a" c o m p a r i s o n s y s t e m in which two p h o t o - t r a n s i s t o r s a r e located adjacent to the f a b r i c in e i t h e r c o u r s e - w i s e o r w a l e - w i s e p o s i t i o n s , so that d i f f e r e n t outputs o c c u r in the p r e s e n c e of a fault. A b i - s t a b l e c i r c u i t r e s p o n d s to the d i f f e r e n c e signal, and a m e a n s to instigate the p r o p e r action is included.
D e t e c t i o n of m e t a l fatigue
Rolls Royce Lid B r i t i s h Patent 1,124,403 (21 August 1968) (Applied for 8 April 1967) A jet of a i r i m p i n g e s on the gas turbine blade that is to be fatigue t e s t e d . The blade is held between the jaws of a vice equipped with a s t r a i n gauge giving an AC signal c o r r e s ponding to the blade vibration. The amplitude of this signal is u s e d to maintain a constant velocity of the fluid i s s u i n g f r o m the jet. Fatigue is d e t e c t e d by a change of f r e q u e n c y of the signal with t i m e .

The p o s i t i o n of breakdown in an inductive w i n d i n g - - s u c h a s a t r a n s f o r m e r s e c o n d a r y w i n d i n g - - i s located by connecting its ends to e a r t h points through inductive r e a c t a n c e s , and applying a high t e s t voltage a c r o s s the p r i m a r y , so that a h i g h - f r e q u e n c y a r c i n g d i s c h a r g e o c c u r s at the fault point. The r a t i o of the voltages a c r o s s the r e a c t a n c e s i s indicative of the p o s i t i o n of the point of breakdown.
This is a fabric fault detecting s y s t e m for the r o t a t i n g d r u m type of knitting m a c h i n e . It c o m p r i s e s a" c o m p a r i s o n s y s t e m in which two p h o t o - t r a n s i s t o r s a r e located adjacent to the f a b r i c in e i t h e r c o u r s e - w i s e o r w a l e - w i s e p o s i t i o n s , so that d i f f e r e n t outputs o c c u r in the p r e s e n c e of a fault.
