at the

IAMAP Third Scientific Assembly 17.-28 August 1981. Hamburg, Federal Republic of Germany

As part of the IAMAP Third Scientific Assembly in Hamburg, Federal Republic of Germany, the CACGP plans to have a 2-3-d session (tentatively 24-26 August) on The Role of the Oceans in Atmospheric Chemistry (ROAC). This session will be jointly sponsored by IAPSO. Of particular concern is an evaluation of the importance of the ocean and air/sea exchange processes in the atmospheric biogeochemical cycles of sulfur, nitrogen, CO, CH, organic compounds, halogens and halogenated compounds, H,O,, and trace elements and their compounds. Relative to these cycles, contributed papers are solicited in the following areas : 1. The chemistry of precipitation over the ocean. 2. The chemistry of marine aerosols and their production by and deposition to the ocean. 3. The ocean as a source and sink for atmospheric trace gases. 4. Theoretical and laboratory modelling of the air/sea

exchange of trace gases and aerosols This first announcement is to alert interested individuals of this session. Details concerning the abstract deadline, possible publication of the papers, exact dates for the session etc., will be sent out in a second announcement in September 1980. Further information and application forms are available from the session co-conveners : ROBERT
