TIlE plastieizat.ion of eelltdose aeetobutyrate by the high molecular plasticizer, butadiene ~ilrile rubber, !ms been investigated. Temperature transitions and the mechanical properties ()t' the mixtures have been determined over a wide range of plasticizer concentrations. ln~ra-l)aeket plast.ieizati(m is obserw~d in the region of plasticizer-polymer compatibility: at hi(;h~r plasticizer concentrations the plasticization assumes an inter-packet eharaeter. Two glass transition temperatures appear on the thermo-meehanieal c u r v e - - a t the e~')n('cniration range of plasticizer at which the mixture eompen~,nts are incompatible. Con(.urrenlly the sy:*tem assumes a heterogenie character, leading to brittleness. THE INFLUENCE OF S H A P E IN THE SYSTEM POLYMETHYLMETHACRYLATE E T H Y L ACETATE

The relationship was used to determine the optical anisotropy of the segmenl (%-- z2) and the Flory constant. The assymetry of the molecular ellipsoM coil was determined lo t)e 1)=-2.21. The concentration dependence of the shape effect for this system confirms the lhe~)retieal r~,lations deduced earlier. INVESTIGATION OF CHELATE POLYMERS--IV. ('llFA,ATE l)olymers of 4,4"-bis.(~.-thioalkylpyridineamido).dit)henyl and t.he divalent mebals copper, nickel, zinc and cobalt have been synthesized. A number of physieo-ehemieal determinatiolfs have been nmde upon them, namely, Dehye diffraction patt.erns, thermal and chemical stabilities, reflection and luminiseenee spectra and magnetic susceptibilities. ()n the basis of the magneto-chemical studies sugfzest ions haw ~been made as to the structure ,d" t.ht' chelate hundles of the compounds. The method is based on the preliminary formation of little-substituted cellulose ester or ether containing an aromatic amine group followed by diazotization and formation of a maeroradieal grafting initiator.
