They have important applications in drug delivery, on–off valves, separation processes, molecular recovery, etc. Novel temperature-sensitive cellulose graft copolymers were synthesized and characterized by grafting of N,N-diethylacrylamide (DEAM) onto cellulose using cerium(IV) ammonium nitrate (CAN)-HNO3 as initiator system. The effects of reaction time, monomer concentration, initiator/acid ratio on the properties of copolymers were investigated. The copolymers were purified by washing with distilled water, and dried in vacuum (40◦ C). The copolymers were characterized by FTIR, SEM, DSC, and elemental analysis. Temperature sensitivity and response rate of the copolymers were determined by swelling experiments at different temperatures. The amount of DEAM grafted onto cellulose varied with the reaction parameters, and thermosensitivity of the copolymer increased with its DEAM content. doi:10.1016/j.copbio.2011.05.173

Materials & Methods: The choice between flotation, leaching or bioleaching from low grade copper bearing domestic ores. Results: The average recoveries from flotation process in the copper concentrate were ca. 90% for copper, 55–58% for gold, and 35–40% for silver. The average recoveries from leaching were ca. 92–93% for copper, 75–80% for gold, and 70–75% for silver. The average recoveries from bio-leaching were ca. 93–95% for copper, 75–85% for gold, and 75–85% for silver. Discussion: Bioleaching is most appropriate method. doi:10.1016/j.copbio.2011.05.175

Yanmis) Magnesite used in many application fields throughout world posses a critical importance among ore sources of our country. In parallel with raising demand of magnesite, the price of it increases day by day. One of important problems about magnesite ore of our country is that it consists of high level calcium-carbonate. CaCO3 should be under 1% in magnesite content for its being valuable and applicable. Some magnesite ores in Turkey cannot be used, since the amount of CaCO3 is ≥3% and methods for lowering this value are not practical and economic. In this study, we aimed enrichment of magnesite ore with high content CaCO3 by using biotechnological methods. Magnesite enrichment potential of bacterial isolates was determined according to their CaCO3 dissolving abilities. CaCO3 dissolving rates of bacteria, gave positive results in the preliminary studies, were investigated. 2/64 isolates showed significant positive response in the preliminary studies. The isolates showed also positive response in the further investigations performed with magnesite and pure CaCO3 . It is demonstrated that bacterial strains belong to Actinomycetes isolated from some caves have significant magnesite enrichment potential. doi:10.1016/j.copbio.2011.05.174
