The Variation of the Dielectric Constants of Some Organic Liquids with Frequency in the Range i to iooo Kilocycles. R . W . LUNT and M. A. G. RAt:. (Proc. Roy. Soc., A 80I.) I t is known t h a t the dielectric constant of liquids changes in accordance with D e b y e ' s theory for frequencies from io 4 to Io ~ kilocycles per sec., b u t v e r y little is known concerning the variation of this p r o p e r t y at frequencies below IO3 kc. In this p a p e r several organic liquids were examined and their dielectric constants, in some cases also their electrical resistances, measured. Within the limits of experimental error benzene, ether, m e t h y l a t e d ether and chloroform show no change in dielectric constant in the frequency range I to IO3 kc. T h e same holds true for aniline, nitrobenzene, ethyl alcohol and acetone for the range I to Io 2 kc., while for higher frequencies there is in each case a small increase. T h e course followed b y the electric conductivity of aniline is interesting. Up to I & kc. it diminishes slowly, then the rate is accelerated and at IO~ kc. it was too small to be measured on the a p p a r a t u s . T h e c o n d u c t i v i t y of acetone and ethyl alcohol was not found to change, b u t t h a t of nitrobenzene diminished though more slowly t h a n in the case of aniline. G. F. S.
