Total Nitrogen Analyser An automated Total Nitrogen Analyser, capable of measuring total bound nitrogen in gas, liquid, solid, and LPG samples in sub-ppm to percent concentrations, has been introduced by Sartec. The DN01000 is expected to find application in a variety of fields including the refining and petrochemical industries, water treatment, environmental protection, medicine and food technology. It uses high temperature combustion followed by chemiluminescence detection. Samples are analysed for nitrogen concentrations in the range of 0.1 to 2000 mg 1-1 using a single, dual zone furnace and a dual range detector. The instrument conforms to internationally approved methodologies for total nitrogen analysis (ASTM D4629 and IP 379). The low maintenance system does not use drying chemicals or permeation tubes. A chilled dryer condenses out moisture from the combustion gas stream. An ultraviolet ozonator provides a reliable supply of contaminant-free ozone for the all important reduction step of the analysis. Under the control of its integral microcomputer, the DN-1000 handles a wide variety of sample types via its automatic boat inlet and it can also accept sample input by syringe or gas-LPGF sampler. An auto-sample option permits unattended operation in either syringe or boat mode for up to 14 h. Analysis results are available in typically two to four minutes from sample injection. Set up and operation of the DN-1000 is entirely menu-driven via the instrument's membrane keypad and 15 line, 40 column video display. A continuous update of system status is provided during the course of

each analysis. The user may choose either single or multi-point calibration, depending on the application, and critical operating parameters are automatically adjusted to match the sample inlet selected. Consistent application of the defined analysis protocol is ensured since a key method will remain resident in the batterybacked memory until a new set of parameters is defined. Results, including computed averages and standard deviations, can be reported in either concentration or mass of nitrogen terms. Analysis data may be output to the video display, presented as hard copy via the integral printer port or passed to other laboratory computer systems via the optional RS232C interface. Bonding Strip A clean and easy-to-use alternative to brush-on or gun grade adhesives for use in joining together pond and river bank protective lining is provided by Kwikstik 1795 now available from DRG Kwikseal Products. Kwikstik 1795 is a long-lasting rubber resin adhesive bonding strip which gives good adhesion to most lining materials including polythene. It provides an instant non-hardening and flexible bond and is solvent free and gives off no fumes. Available in preformed strips in rolls, Kwikstrip 1795 comes in a choice of three thicknesses and six width sizes. It has an aggressive pressure sensitive adhesive making it quick, clean and simple to apply by hand direct from the roll.
