Wang modules A new software 'solutions' company - PME - has announced the UK launch of a wide range of software packages specifically for use on Wang 2200 series minicomputers. Developed by The Office Manager Inc. (TOM), the packages have previously been unavailable in the UK but have been widely installed throughout America. TOM provides a popular and successful series of application modules, including all standard accounting routines as well as a wide range of
vertical market packages for particular business areas. The various modules are written using Speed - a high level control system. This method allows further applications to be implemented easily, while existing programs can be modified to suit customer requirements. In addition, Speed is complemented by RMS, a records management system; and DATA 3500, a comprehensive word processing system, which can perform all word processing functions without any hardware change. Record and file locking A new operating system for multiuser microcomputer systems is now available from Digital Research. Designated MP/M II, it features record and file locking, as well as optional password protection for data security. Minimum requirements for MP/M II are an 8080, 8085 or Z80 processor, 48k RAM, a clock timer interrupt, One disc subsystem and a console. It can support up to 16 consoles, 16 printers and 16 disc drives with up to 512 Mbyte of storage each, for total online storage of 8 Gbyte. MP/M II can manage up to 400 kbyte of RAM. Since the nucleus of the operating system requires only 16k, remainder can be switched in 48k banks among eight users. MP/M II also includes many utilities that previously were available only as options. These include RMAC, a relocatable macroassembler; LINK-80, a linker with overlay facilities; and LI B, a program library management utility. MP/M II files are fully compatible with CP/M files. The MP/M II file system, however, allows larger files than CP/M, up to 32 Mbytes. Each file can contain two date and time stamps. Additionally, MP/M II supports CP/NET. The record and file locking features of MP/M II are designed to prevent inaccuracies in data which can result when two or more users are updating the same files (or records) at the same time.

MP/M II is distributed on a standard format IBM single-density 8-in floppy disc. An upgrade kit is available to convert MP/M systems to MP/M II systems. Additionally, MP/M II is supported by Digital Research's software performance reporting system to provide prompt responses to technical problems associated with MP/M II. MP/M II is priced at $495. It is available in Europe through Vector International. (Vector

UNET software Small computer systems users can now enjoy networking privileges formerly available only on large systems. Using the UNET networking software from 3Corn, UN IX-based systems from small to large can be joined in a common network. And the newest enhancements to UNET extend communication rates up to 100 kbit for DEC computers. UNET has a variety of capabilities that are important when building a network. One of those capabilities the establishment of virtual terminals - allows a user's remote connection appear to be a direct one. UNET also features automatic route-through, using store-and-forward procedures to provide all services transparently. Remote file transfer is offered, enabling the exchange of ASCII and binary files between computers in the network. 3Corn has adopted a flexible pricing and licencing schedule. It consists of a two-part fee structure - one for program licensing and another for binary copies. The former covers use of UNET source code and one binary copy and the latter covers use of additional machine-level code. One-off prices are $7500 and $4000 respectively. (3Corn Corp., 1390 Shorebird

ificate for CIS COBOL
The latest release of CIS COBOL for microcomputers running CP/M offers users increased functionality together with the benefit of second-year certification by the US General Services Administration (GSA). The new release, Version 4.4, enhances CIS COBOL as a program development tool, provides GSA flagging for the first time and permits greater flexibility in program segmentation. The new GSA flagging feature in CIS COBOL simplifies the task of transferring COBOL source programs form one computer system to another, by flagging the occurrence in user
programs of COBOL language features not supported at any one of the four levels of Federal standard COBOL. This means that compilation under CIS COBOL can be used to check the portability of a program to any other Federal standard-conforming COBOL system. Standard CIS COBOL Version 4,4 is available to new users at the same price as previous CP/M releases, £425.00, and to existing users of Standard CIS COBOL for an upgrade fee of £42.50.
