Control panel for use in irrigation applications SJE-Rhombus has developed a control panel specifically designed for pressure control in irrigation applications. The VFDC-1300 is equipped with a variable frequency drive (VFD) in a NEMA 3R enclosure with a circuit breaker, VFDC-1300 controller and a pressure transmitter. The control panel also includes proportional integral derivative (PID) control with sleep function, fill pipe function and dry run protection, with automatic re-start after a pre-set time, making this control solution suitable for irrigation pumping systems.

“Whisper-quiet” pumping systems Smedegaard has released its new WallPress Whisper range of pressurisation pumping systems. According to the company, the systems are “whisper-quiet” in operation, with a noise level less than that of competitor models. The Whisper range is designed to provide a minimum system pressure requirement. It incorporates a digital microprocessor control module which provide system diagnostics, high and low pressure monitoring and volt-free contact for boiler/chiller interlock. The range includes three wall-mounted models. These are the Whisper Single which is H460xD220xW300, is powered by a 20 watt motor and has a maximum cold fill pressure of up to 4 bar. The WallPress Mono also has single pump operation, is 510xD220xW440 and is fitted with a 0.6 kW motor and available in 3 and 6 bar versions. www.worldpumps.com

The Whisper Duo is also H510xD220xW440, but has twin pump capability. The pumps are designed for use with the company’s expansion vessels and are suitable for low temperature hot water (LTHW) and chilled water systems. www.smedegaard.com

VSD re-design makes it quietest in the range Atlas Copco Compressors has redesigned its GA 5-11/GA 5-15 kW variable speed drive (VSD) oil-injected screw compressor range. The company says that the redesign improves the compressors’ performance, workplace flexibility, component reliability and energy saving capacity. The range, which is the company’s smallest, incorporates a new-generation compression element, new VSD voltage variants, a new Elektronikon controller, and an additional tank-mounted GA 15 VSD model. Atlas Copco says that its engineers have succeeded in lowering specific energy requirements (SER) by up to 8% by incorporating a new screw compressor element. Free air delivery (FAD) has also been increased by up to 8%. For applications where the compressed air demand fluctuates,

the VSDs can reportedly create average energy savings of up to 35%. The operating noise levels of the WorkPlace Concept drive start from around 60 dB(A), making this new compressor the quietest in the range. The drives are suitable for a wide range of applications including automotive, water treatment, air separation and construction. www.atlascopco.co.uk

Swing-piston pumps handle air or gas KNF Neuberger has developed two new swing-piston pumps that have been designed to transfer, evacuate, or compress air or inert gas.

The new models include a compact 3.3 l/m micro pump and a 25 l/m mid-size version, which both vacuum or pressure capabilities. In the pump, the sealing lip between the cylinder and wall has been designed to minimize frictional loss.

The swing-piston pumps are available with AC motors, brushcommutated DC motors, or brushless DC motors. KNF’s swing-piston product line now includes pumps with flow ranges of 3.3 l/m, 9 l/m, 18 l/m, 25 l/m, 50 l/m and 78 l/m with vacuums to 27.6 in Hg and pressures up to 100 psig, depending on type of pump. www.knf.com
