Writing for Physiotherapy: Information for authors Physiotherapy is dedicated to the advancement of physiotherapy through critical review and publication of research and scholarly work concerned with its scientific baais and clinical application, education of practitioners and management of services. The principles and paradigms of physiotherapy are in the p m s s of being verified and legitimate controvemy is characteristic of areas of practice in which a consensus is not yet established. Therefore, Physiotherapy ia also an outlet for speculative theories and a forum for ideas that challenge custom and practice. It is international in ~ p and e invites submissions of English-language manuscripte from physiotherapists and members of associated professions and disciplines. Original, interpretive articles which examine the foundations of physiotherapy and advance the frontiers of knowledge are welcomed. Preparation of Edih+l Material Copy should be submitted double-spaced, typed or in the highest quality printing available, on one side only of A4 paper. Leave 2.5 cm (1 inch) margins all round and number sheeta consecutively. The tirat page should give: The title of the article. The authods) names. A complete name and address for correspondence. Up to three relevant professional and academic qualifications for all authors and their current positions. A brief note about each author which, for research papers, indicates their cnntribution to the work. Any source of funds supporting the work. The name of the conference if the paper is an adaptation of a presentation. A count (or estimate) of the number of words, excluding the summary and references. AU Peer-nviewed Articles The title page should give: The title of the paper. Up to five key words A summary of no more than 200 words explaining the *purpose and summarising the key points and conclusions and, for research reports, the design, methods, findings and reaults. Au Articlea The text should be well organiaed and written in simple and correct English under appropriate headings. The p i t i o n s of tables and figurea should be indicated. References should be in the Harvard style. In text, cite only the authods) surnamda) followed by the date of publication, eg (Robinson, 1894) or Robinson (1894). Explain all abbreviations in a footnote. Place tables on separate sheets a f k the references. Figures: Number them consecutively 88 they are referred to in the text and place on separate sheets after the tables. List all captions on a separate sheet. Black and white or coloured prints, 173 mm x 127 mm (7 in x 5 in). in sharp focus with good contrast are preferred. Line drawings, graphs and charts should be of professional quality with sharp and clear lettering and lines. Explain all abbreviations in a footnote. Write the fvst author's name, the figure number and an arrow indicting the top of the figure on the back of each original. Do not put names on photocopies for reviewers. Acknowledgements, if desired, may be listed on a separate sheet. Weasurementa As the International System of Units (SI)is not yet universal and both metric and imperial units are used in the United Kingdom and the USA in different clcumstancea, depending on which units were used for the o r i d calculations, data may be reported in imperial units followed by the SI equivalent in parentheses or SI measurements followed by imperial measurements in parentheses.

Permissions and Ethical Certification Protection of subjects: Either provide written permimion from patients, parents or guardians to publish photographs of recognimble individuals or obscure facial features. For reports of research involving people, written confirmation of informed consent is required. Where appropriate, reports should be accompanied by a signed certificate of approval from the appropriate hospital or university ethics committee. Reprinting of tables and illustrations: Authors should either enclose notice of permission to reprint from copyright holders or provide complete source references or the names of the copyright holders so that the managing editor can obtain permission. S u b h i o n ofArticles Submit three copies of an article, plus a disc copy if possible, and one original copy and two photocopies of each table and figure. Enclose a covering letter from the principal author stating the type of article being submitted, releasing copyright, confirming that appropriate permissions have been obtained, and stating what reprinting permissions a r e required.
