PB89-181283/XAB of Biological Waste Minimization Technology Glaser,J. A. Environmental Protection Agency, Cincinnati, OH. Risk Reduction Engineering Lab. Report No. : EPA/600/D-89/073 Apr 89 1OP Languages: English NYIS Prices: $9.95 Country of Publication: United States The use of biological means to treat waste has been a mainstay of industrial and municiple wastewater treatment technology. Recovery of waste materials or conversion to other economically useful forms of commercial products has provoked considerable scrutiny but few genuine commercial processes. This lapse of application is partially attributable to the changing knowledge base supporting such ventures and the economic recovery of development costs. The increasing cost of materials and the enforcement of environmental legislation has paved the way for a renewed interest in biological technology that offers both a recovery of unused resources and a general reduction of waste effluents. Ohio State Univ., Columbus. Dept. of Chemical Engineering Sponsor: Geological Survey, Reston, VA. Water Resourses Div. Report No.: USGS/G-1150 Ott 88 132~ Languages: English NTIS Prices: $18.95 Country of Publication: United States The research investigated the fundamental, practical design and operation of a novel two-stage three-phase fluidized bed bioreactor for cost-effective waste-water treatment. Phenol biodegradation was selected as a model biodegradation system for the study. The fundamental studies included bubble 615
