Aim: KIR Genotypic profiles have been reported to be correlated with many clinical entities but not in recurrent tonsillitis. Our aim is to study this relationship among pediatric Lebanese patients with recurrent tonsillitis. Samples and Methods: Using PEL-FREEZ DYNAL KIR Genotyping SSP kit, we typed the DNA of 18 pediatric Lebanese patients with recurrent tonsillitis for the absence or presence of 16 gene loci with their variants. Results: Three new out of 9 different genotypic profiles were not previously reported. The A:B haplotype ratio of 1.4:1 was similar to the general population (1.3:1). However, complete absence of the BB genotype is noted. Conclusions: Because of this interesting finding, we are in the process of recruiting additional patients to resolve the question: Is the Natural Killer Cell Receptor BB genotype protective against recurrent tonsillitis?
