September, 1980, on the campus of the University of Strathclyde (hosted by the Department of Shipbuilding and Naval Architecture). The School offers a choice oftwoout of the following three modules: Week 1 : Key Topics in Ship Production Week 2: Computer Applications in Production a Modern Management Techniques b and the aim is that participants will develop techniques of analysis which will lead to greater efficiency at a time when this is of paramount importance if yards are to remain in production. To this end, the outstanding features of the programme are the emphasis on case-study, and the opportunities for interaction, both amongst the participants themselves and with experts drawn from much of Western Europe. Active co-operation from local industry and related services will provide opportunities for relevant plant-visits. All teaching will be in English. WEGEMT (West European Graduate Education in Marine Technology) is a recently formed organisation to pool facilities for short-term specialised training at post-graduate level for young graduates and also more experienced staff in shipbuilding and marine technology generally. Previous Schools have covered "Advanced Aspects of Offshore Engineering", and "Advanced Ship Design Techniques", and others are planned on "Ocean Transportation" and "Ice Technology". Representatives from six countries in Western Europe are sharing with the U.K. in planning the September 1980 programme. Module 1 of this School will consider Management Styles and various aspects of Production. Module 2(a) deals comprehensively with Computing in this field, while Module 2(b) focuses on the important issues of Corporate Strategy, Finance, Marketing and Industrial Relations. Each module is complete in itself but preference will be given to those who apply for the two weeks.
