he Air Medical Transport Conference (AMTC) is going back to Cali! Join 2500 of your peers October 19-21 at the 2015 AMTC in Long Beach, a location the conference has not seen since the early 1990s. Some of you may remember that event, but let us say—a lot has changed. Long Beach is thrilled to have us back and to serve once again as host to the premiere emergency medical transport conference in the world. As has come to be expected, AMTC attendees will experience high-quality, up-to-the-minute education sessions coupled with multiple networking opportunities throughout the 3-day conference. The AMTC education program is designed to address the needs of those who are newer to the industry, as well as those who are considered industry veterans (and may have attended an AMTC in Long Beach before). Education topics will cover a variety of disciplines, including core clinical, specialty clinical, management, patient safety, aviation safety, research, communications, and global perspectives. We have 2 keynote sessions planned for Long Beach. Monday’s keynote features former Chief Correspondent for Fox News, Jim Angle. He has reported from the front lines on the most important issues of our day, including health care and the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The ACA is now being fully implemented throughout the United States with varied results. The upcoming Supreme Court ruling (King v. Burwell), and likely the 2016 US election, will help solidify the ACA as the ultimate health care law of the land, or we could see the legislation dismantled. Either way, large scale changes are in store for the business sector, most notably to providers across the country. Angle will help discern the potential effects on the business of medical transport. On Tuesday, Dr. Marcus Skinner, anesthesiologist, trauma physician, and pilot, will share his experiences on maintain-

ing safety standards in high-risk environments. To be frank, at one time the field of anesthesiology had a high mortality rate. With determined changes to their industry’s culture, that mortality rate drastically reduced over time. Our intent is to provide as much exposure on how other professions improve on safety from outside, as well as safety outcomes from the inside. In addition to our unrivaled education, the AMTC will once again feature a sold-out exhibit hall that showcases cutting-edge products and services for medical transport providers. In between sessions, attendees can visit the tradeshow floor for the latest and greatest from aircraft and EMS interiors to flight suits and helmets! The conference kicks off in style with 2 special events for which the proceeds benefit the MedEvac Foundation International. First, participants can enjoy 18 holes on the beautiful Skylinks at Long Beach golf course on Sunday, October 18. After a day of golf, the MedEvac Foundation is hosting a benefit concert featuring local favorite western swing/country boogie band, Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys, who promise us a fantastic time for a great cause. Monday evening, October 19, features the Annual Community Awards Banquet. Included in the full registration, this event features dinner and a celebration of the best and brightest in emergency medical transport. Wednesday night, October 21, we invite all attendees to our closing night event, MASH BASH Meets China Beach! Many attendees still thoroughly enjoy the MASH BASH theme and feel it’s important to pay tribute to the advent of air medicine during the Korean War. Just as many are ready for something different, a fresh way to celebrate another successful AMTC. If you’re comfortable in your fatigues, bring it on! For those of you that are ready for something new, 2015’s closing night party will also be themed for a giant beach party in a nod to our beautiful Southern California location. A Little About Long Beach!

he Air Medical Transport Conference will make Long Beach its home this fall, October 19 through 21. Located in southern California and known as the Urban Waterfront Playground, Long Beach is the second busiest container port in the United States, as well as 1 of the world’s largest shipping ports. Long Beach is an ideal location because of the perfect combination of great weather, attractions, and an all-round gorgeous setting. Along with its amazing restaurant selections, Long Beach was voted 1 of America’s most walkable cities. While you’re in town, try to make some time for the following notable attractions: • The Queen Mary is a 1936 ocean liner permanently docked at Long Beach. Converted to a hotel and maritime museum in 1967, the Queen Mary is famous for its distinctive art deco design. • Just across the water from the Queen Mary, the nonprofit Aquarium of the Pacific features a collection of over 12,500 animals representing over 550 different species. The facility focuses on the Pacific Ocean in 3 major permanent galleries: sunny Southern California and Baja, the frigid waters of the Northern Pacific, and the colorful reefs of the Tropical Pacific. • Long Beach is also home to famous Long Beach Grand Prix, one of the largest Formula One races in the west. The Long Beach Motorsports Walk of Fame is located on South Pine Avenue in front of the Convention Center and adjacent to the Grand Prix circuit. The Walk of Fame was created in 2006 to honor key contributors to motorsports and annually inducts new members in conjunction with the Grand Prix. While you’re taking in the sights of the city, you can’t help but notice the unique décor of the city. Long Beach is also known for its impressive street art, some of which was created in conjunction with the Mural and Cultural Arts Program. Long Beach and the AMTC cannot wait for October. We look forward to seeing you in beautiful Southern California!
