2DCOS-II
The Second International Symposium on Two-dimensional Correlation Spectroscopy (2DCOS-II) was over with great success. We would like to sincerely thank all participants and express our gratitude for your making the symposium so unforgettable and fruitful. 2DCOS-II was held at the University of Nottingham, Nottingham, UK on 21–23 August 2003. This symposium was a satellite meeting of The Second International Conference on Advanced Vibrational Spectroscopy (ICAVS-II) held on the campus of the University of Nottingham on 24–29 August 2003. The university has a wonderful conference hall and accommodation facilities. We all enjoyed English Landscape there. Thanks to the enormous help of Prof. Michael W. George, Dr. John M. Chalmers, their postdoctoral fellows and students at the University of Nottingham, the symposium was very successful and enjoyable. We greatly appreciate their contribution to 2DCOS-II. About 60 participants from 16 nations—Bahrain, Brazil, Canada, China, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Korea, Norway, Poland, Spain, UK and USA— attended 2DCOS-II to discuss the recent progress in theory and applications of two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy. Many young researchers were present at the symposium and brought their new ideas. Their fresh and innovative researches and techniques have impressed us all through the symposium. Invited lecturers of 2DCOS-II were as follows (affiliations are the ones at the time of 2DCOS-II): F.E. Barton II (US Department of Agriculture, Athens, USA) substituted by D.S. Himmelsbach (US Department of Agriculture, Athens, USA) R. Buchet (University of Lyon I, Villeurbanne, France) M. Cho (Korea University, Seoul, Korea) M.A. Czarnecki (University of Wroclaw, Wroclaw, Poland) B. Czarnik-Matusewicz (University of Wroclaw, Wroclaw, Poland) R. Dluhy (University of Georgia, Athens, USA) C.D. Eads (The Procter and Gamble Company, Cincinnati, USA) 0924-2031/$ – see front matter # 2004 Elsevier B.V. Zhao (University of Arkansas, Little Rock, USA) The speakers and the audience were able to exchange their views and newly acquired results in lively and sometimes heated discussions. The poster session was also quite active and successful. A total of 35 posters were displayed during the symposium. The presentation by S. Chenevarin1, F. Thibault-Starzyk1 and G. Zachmann2 titled ‘‘2DCOS IR for heterogeneous catalysis-spectroscopy of adsorbed species by pressure modulation techniques, and spectroscopy of

The Third International Symposium on Two-dimensional Correlation Spectroscopy (2DCOS-III) will be held in USA, hosted by Prof. Lei Geng of the University of Iowa. Meanwhile, 2DCOS International Forum will be established before long. We are preparing the home page of this forum. It is our pleasure to inform you of the latest news. Looking forward to seeing you all soon in other symposia.
