(P = 0.006). The group with education had the mean time of 11.41 months with taking medications. This mean was 9.14 months in the control group (P < 0.001). There was also a significant difference between the two groups in terms of frequency of psychiatric visits (P < 0.001). Conclusions: Short-term family-focused psychoeducation appears to be an efficacious adjunct to pharmacotherapy for bipolar disorder. Further studies need to evaluate the longer courses of family-psychoeducational treatment and compare its costeffectiveness to long-term psychoeducation for BMD patients. Poster session P51. Rehabilitation 107 An Investigation on Burnouts in Physiotherapists Working in Rehabilitation Centers in Ahvaz S. Neamatpour. Psychology, Ahwaz Jondishapour University of Medical Sciences, Ahwaz, Iran Introduction: Continuous, daily encounters with patients and their families, accepting them as people with special needs and trying to meet their needs are some of physiotherapy’s necessities, which can lead to burnouts in this group of workers. This study aimed to investigate burnouts in this group. Methods: This study is a cross-sectional one, in which forty-five physiotherapists working in rehabilitation centers of Ahvaz city were selected randomly, based on the study’s aim. They were investigated through completing demographic characteristics and Maslach Burnout Questionnaire. Results: Forty percent of the sampling reported emotional exhaustion, 56.5 percent reported personal accomplishment and 16 percent showed depersonalization ranging between the average levels to severe level. There was a negative correlation between emotional exhaustion and work experience (r = −0.4, p < 0.007). There was a positive correlation between overwork and emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal accomplishment respectively (p < 0.036, p < 0.000, p < 0.0181). Also, there was a positive correlation between emotional exhaustion and subjects’ age. Conclusion: According to the study results, it is suggested that decreasing tensions and stresses of these workers using psychological interventions and training them on methods of adaptive coping may prevent burnout. Stresses resulting from overwork in this group need changes in the workplace along with the way of servicing the patients.

calculated how precisely a subject was able to control the rotary speed of a ergometer according to the instructions provided by the system. Mental functions were assessed using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and the Frontal Assessment Battery at bedside (FAB). The assessments were conducted on three occasions: baseline and 3 and 6months after the start of the intervention. Results: After 6 months of the intervention, the mirgometer® scores and the MMSE and the FAB scores had improved significantly. On the other hand, no significant changes in their physical functions were observed. Conclusion: These results suggest that this exercise may improve mental function and prevent a decline in physical function among infirm elderly people. 365 Effect of Group Reminiscence Therapy Using Active Touch on Cognitive Function in the Elderly Y. However, the effect of reminiscence therapy on cognitive function has not yet been proved. The purpose of this study was to conduct group reminiscence therapy using active touch among elderly persons using health care facilities within a community and to assess its efficacy using a randomized controlled trial. Methods: We conducted reminiscence therapy using active touch for 27 persons for a total of 6 sessions, once a week, for 60 minutes each. Twenty-six persons participated as a control group and lived as usual for the same period. The Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Frontal Assessment Battery at bedside (FAB), Short version of the geriatrics depression scale (GDS-15), Life Satisfaction Index A (LSIA), and Multidimensional Observation Scale for Elderly Subjects for assessment (MOSES) were used to evaluate cognitive and mental functions. Evaluations were performed on three occasions: one week before the start of intervention and one week and four weeks after the completion of the intervention. Result: There was a significant improvement in the FAB score in the group reminiscence therapy. Conclusions: This result suggest that group reminiscence therapy using active touch was effective for the frontal lobe function of elderly persons. The interrelation between group reminiscence therapy and frontal lobe function in the elderly should be investigated further.

133 Prevalence of and Factors Associated with Depression in Patients with Schizophrenia in Thailand: A Cross-Sectional Study

Introduction and Aim: In Japan, the proportion of elderly people has increased rapidly, and the promotion of physical and mental health among the elderly has become an urgent issue. We developed a speed-feedback therapy system with a bicycle ergometer (mirgometer® exercise) as one approach to improving of physical and mental functions among the elderly. The system consists of a bicycle ergometer and a personal computer. In this study, we investigated the effects of mirgometer® exercise on the physical and mental functions of infirm elderly people. Methods: The subjects were 16 infirm elderly people who were outpatients of a day service center for the elderly. They participated in the mirgometer® exercise more than once a week for 6 months. Their physical functions (balance and flexibility) were assessed using stabilometry and functional reach test. The mirgometer® score

S. Suttajit, S. Pilakanta. Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University, Chaing Mai, Thailand Background: Little is known about the prevalence of and factors associated with depression in patients with schizophrenia, especially in Asian countries where typical antipsychotic drugs with depressogenic effect are still commonly used. Objectives: To assess the prevalence of depression and identify factors associated with depression in patients with schizophrenia. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study conducted in 75 patients with schizophrenia at a university hospital in Thailand. Major depressive episodes were diagnosed by psychiatrists according to DSM-IV-TR. The six social support deficits scale was used to identify social support deficits. Logistic regression was used to analyze the association between type of antipsychotic drugs, number of side
