ratus, particularly for off shore wells, utilizing a pollution control curtain surrounding drilling equipment between the surface of the water and a well head, such curtain comprising a submerged anchor ring having secured to the top thereof an axially extendable water impermeable sleeve secured at its lower end to the top of the submerged anchor ring, a float ring secured to the upper end of the extendable sleeve, a plurality of longitudinally spaced buoyant rings attached at suitable intervals about the periphery of the sleeve to provide uniform axial extension of the sleeve, and a fillable retriever ring secured to the lower portion of the anchor ring to facilitate installation and removal of the curtain from the well site when the retriever ring is filled with a buoyant substance. 4373338 SYSTEM FOR GENERATING ENERGY USING THE TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE WATER TEMPERATURE AT THE SEA SURFACE AND THE WATER TEMPERATURE AT GREATER DEPTH
819
A system for generating energy by converting thermal energy into another form of energy by the exchange of water from great depth with surface water, said system comprising a floating installation having a downwardly directed cold water pipe as well as a number of thermal energy converting aggregates, said installation having the form of a pontoon, carrying a platform by means of columns, a number of box-shaped units containing the thermal energy converting aggregates being placed on top of the said pontoon, each unit having a channel with pump and heat exchanger, said channels having their inlets either in connection with the cold water supply or with the environmental water, the connection with the cold water being at the underside of the units and the connection with the environmental water at the upper side of the units, each channel having its outlet at the side of the pontoon. Said units each may have a warm water channel and a cold water channel or part of the units only contain cold water channels and another part only warm water channels. 4368691 FLOWING BED METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CULTURING AQUATIC ORGANISMS David Brune, assigned to Regents of the University of California

removed from a region (2 I, 22a, 21 b) in which aquatic organisms are confined within a liquid medium ( 13, 13a, 13b). The particle flow may form a bed at the bottom of the organism containing region that receives waste materials and may also be utilized to scour the walls ( 16) of the culture vessel (11, 1la, 1lb). The particle flow, which may be gravitationally induced, travels down an inclined inner surface (18, 18a, 102) of the culture vessel and out through a submerged outlet (5 1, 5 la, 5 1b) while blocking escape of the organisms through the outlet. The particles are preferably cleaned and recirculated through the flow. While other usages are possible, the system is particularly adapted to the cultivation of herbivore zooplankton, such as brine shrimp for example, for protein production. High density biomassesof such organisms may be maintained without adverse effects heretofore encountered as a result of waste accumulation.

along a body of water. Each module has a heavy concrete base, formed in a ring with a central vertical aperture, which is placed beneath the water near the shore. A series of boards which extend parallel to the shore line are maintained one above the other by a pair of attached flexible belts each of which is also attached ta the base at either end. The boards, bound by the belts, form a web which is permitted to drop downwardly during water flow toward the shore line. During water flow from the shore line, the web of spaced boards rises upwardly to form a pocket which is held in a slightly curved position by the belts. The apertured board arrangement retards the water flow sufficiently to cause the deposit of sand onto and adjacent to the base of the module. When arrayed in a row, generally paralleling the shore line, the modules serve in time to create a sandbar and eventually become fully buried.
