POLYEPOXIDE CURING BY P O L Y M E R C A P T A N S AND A REACTION P R O D U C T OF A M I N O ACIDS OR L A C T A M S WITH AMINES Alien T. Slocki, Brian C a m John F. Simone, assigned to Diamond Shamrock Corporation Extremely rapid ambient curing of polyepoxide resins and mixtures of polyepoxide resins and polyacrylate esters is achieved by use of a curing system composed of at least one polymercaptan and at least one catalytic co-curing agent which is the condensation product of: (a) aliphatic amine or substituted aliphatic amine containing at least one primary aliphatic amine group where the aliphatic moiety is ethylene or greater with (b) at least one amino acid, its corresponding lactam or other amide forming derivative. Optionally, known Lewis Base catalysts for the epoxy/mercaptan reaction, such as tertiary amines, may also be used. 4382949
2-(AMINO ACID-THIO)-ICARBAPEN-2-EM-3-CARBOXYLIC ACIDS A N D CONGENERS Adrian A f o n s o , assigned to Schering Corporation 2-(Amino acid-t hio)- l-carbapen-2-em-3carboxylic acids and congeners having useful antibacterial activity are disclosed. The compounds are prepared in a reaction sequence starting with a 4-allylazetidinone. 4380583
M E T H O D OF P R E P A R I N G SEEDING M A T E R I A L FOR P R O D U C T I O N OF CITRIC ACID
Disclosed is a method of preparing a seeding material for the production of citric acid by cultivating spores of a fungus on a nutrient medium containing carbon and nitrogen sources and mineral salts and by separating spores from the nutrient medium. The fungus used is the strain Aspergillus niger R-3 selected from the strain Aspergillus niger -I 19 by the stepwise action on it of ethyleneimine, N-nitrosomethylurea and ultraviolet radiation. 4379844
BIOCONVERSION OF I N D U S T R I A L CELLULOSIC P U L P M A T E R I A L S TO PROTEIN ENRICHED P R O D U C T Murray M. Young, Waterloo, Canada, assigned to University of Waterloo An industrial cellulosic pulp material, such as wood pulp and paper stock, pulp sludges resulting from the manufacture of paper. coffee and sugar and starch-rich cellulosic materials, such as, bananas and root crops, is converted into a protein-enriched product having significant amounts of microbial biomass in the form of the fungus, Chaetomium cellulolyticum. 4378432
