New Patents posed relation, means defining a closed volume between the supported substrate and the electron beam source, and means to introduce polymerizable molecular species vapor into the closed volume for electron beam exposure and polymerization in situ on the substrate surface.

4460000 VACUUM AND GAS EXPANSION OF TOBACCO Ira H Steinberg assigned to The BOC Group Inc Tobacco is expanded by cooling the same to a temperature of about 30 degrees F. or less and subjecting such cooled tobacco to a subatmospheric pressure in a vessel. CO2 gas is then introduced into the vessel and contacts the cooled tobacco to impregnate the tobacco with CO2 gas as pressure in the vessel is brought to substantially atmospheric pressure. Subsequently, the cooled CO2 impregnated tobacco is subjected to conditions whereby the CO2 in the tobacco is removed and the tobacco is expanded. Typically, the CO2 impregnated tobacco is introduced into an expansion tower wherein it is heated to increase the volume of the CO2 and to expand the tobacco in size.

An improvement in printing machines used in photolithography, repro work, screen printing, and bromography having a glass plate and a vacuum table between which, for example, a film containing the drawing to be reproduced and the plate to be engraved are laid, after which the air between the superimposed plates is sucked out by means of a vacuum pump, characterized by, the fact that the underside of the glass plate has a finely-grained rough surface, across which the air is able to escape on all sides.

4460317 ION PUMP Robert H Kern, Wilfred P Levesque assigned to Kernco Inc An ion pump is described which includes a vacuum housing, a unique, readily removable and replaceable magnet system which makes it possible to measure leakage current alone and a unique, readily removable and replaceable reactive metal cathode for reacting with gaseous ions impinging thereon for their collection. It also includes a novel tandem sputter shielding arrangement for preventing deposition of sputter products on the anode insulator. Both power supply and current metering means which may be mounted on and directly connected to the ion pump are also described.

Barry Hoffman assigned to RCA Corporation A vacuum gripper for holding objects having curved surfaces includes a plurality of hollow arms extending outwardly from a flex axis. The arms are individually flexible with respect to the flex axis and normally lie in the same plane. Each arm supports a vacuum cup at the free end thereof. The arms individually flex when the cups contact a curved surface so that all cups grasp the object firmly irrespective of the configuration of the curved surface.

INFLATABLE CONTAINER PACKING SYSTEM John F Heimovics, Paul Tritt assigned to The B F Goodrich Company The container (12) has an inflation opening (46) which is closed by a valve (56) with seals (66) compressed by spring (90) pressure during the packing process. Air is removed from the container (12) for deflation by a vacuum pump (20) and excessive vacuum necessary for deflating the container (12) in a reasonable time but which is too high for the packing process and may damage the valve (56) or seals (66) is limited by a vacuum control unit (20) adjusted to maintain the vacuum below a predetermined vacuum and then admit atmospheric air over that level. The vacuum control unit (20) may have a screw adjustment (34) engageable with a spring (36) for increasing or decreasing pressure on an inlet valve member (32).
