idize the sulfur contaminants in the vessels and/or conduits upstream from the catalyst. Thereby the evolved sulfur oxides flow through the fixed bed catalyst in the absence of sufficient water which would promote reaction of sulfur oxides with the catalyst. The low water content regenerating gas is continued until substantially all the oxidizable sulfur contaminants are removed from the vessels and/or conduits. Thereafter, carbonaceous deposits are oxidized from the catalyst.

with the instrumental drift produced by variations in the radiation source brightness and by variations in detector gain. The signal can be used to compensate for drift in other signals received through a sample path including the flame. In the present invention, radiation passes through the sample path continuously during measurement, and only through the reference path between sample measurements. Movable mirrors shift the radiation between the paths upon externally applied commands. Conveniently, the reference path measurement is made while the flame is stabilized during the change between samples. The reference path measurements are stored and used to correct for drift.
4508617 DETECTION OF CATALYST BY-PASSING IN FIXED BED NAPHTHA REFORMER
A multi-mode water heating system wherein a capacity control mechanism is provide so that no additional heat source is required and via use of capacity control, either solar radiation energy or ambient air energy is selectively utilized dependent on the availability of sunshine. A system configuration is so arranged as to maximize the system seasonal coefficient of performance by a refrigeration cycle optimization which adjusts both a pump/compressor speed and pressure regulating valve opening.
Dean Montgomery assigned to Phillips Petroleum Company In a normally endothermic naphtha reformer reactor, using a fixed bed of particulate catalyst, to determine if catalyst by-passing is occurring, the feed rate to the reactor is decreased, e.g., by such as about 30 percent, to a rate found previously still to produce an endothermic reaction. If the reactor outlet temperature now exceeds the reactor inlet temperature, the reaction is exothermic, and catalyst by-passing is occurring.
