greater cylinder. The mechanism has at least one pick-up element on a carrying element rotating around a vertical axis. In order to obtain the required way of movement of the pick-up element relative to the rotating carrying element, the pick-up element is rotatably mounted on an intermediate carrier which in turn is rotatably mounted on the carrying element, with the axis of rotation of the pick-up element on the intermediate carrier being eccentrically arranged to the axis of rotation of the intermediate carrier on the carrying element and with the axis of rotation of the intermediate carrier on the carrying element being eccentrically arranged to the axis of rotation of the carrying element. The mechanism has further first cam follower means formed by a first roller engaging a first stationary control cam for pivoting the intermediate carrier and second cam follower means including a lever mechanism and being formed by a second and third roller engaging a second stationary control cam.

A safety belt system having separate lap and shoulder belts. The belts are attached to a double spool belt retraction mechanism which is spring biased to retract the belts. Each spool has associated with it a ratchet wheel and a pawl movable into engagement with the ratchet wheel to prevent extension of the associated belt under certain conditions. A pendulum type inertial member is associated with each pawl and is operable under certain conditions of vehicle acceleration and attitude to move the associated pawl into engagement with the related ratchet wheel. The system includes a belt tension eliminating mechanism which prevents retraction of the shoulder belt under certain operating conditions and a member associated with each pawl which prevents the pawl from rattling under certain operating conditions.

In a sofa bed mechanism which includes a foldable bed frame, a support member on which the bed frame is movably supported, a linkage assembly operable to govern movement of the bed frame and a control member for guiding movement of the mechanism into and out of a storage position in a supporting framework.

In a multiple extending section aerial ladder, a control linkage which allows the elevation, rotation and extension of the ladder to be controlled both from its base and from a working station on its top end. Two sets of rotatable tubes on the middle section of the ladder receive rotatable rods mounted on the upper and lower sections. The sets of rods and tubes rotate together, and

New Patents each rod can extend out of and retract into its tube to accommodate extension and retraction of the ladder. The tubes in the two sets are connected in pairs by crank arms which cause the tubes in each pair to rotate together but in opposite directions. Hydraulic valves which control the ladder functions can be operated directly from the base of the ladder by hand levers on the lower set of rods. The valves can also be operated through the control linkage by handles on the upper set of rods.

A control mechanism for a transmission of a vehicle having an internal combustion engine. The transmission includes a torque convertor, a coupling member, a gear-train, and an operation lever having a neutral position and at least three other positions. The torque convertor, the geartrain, and the coupling member are interposed in a system line for transmitting output torque of the engine to a driving wheel of the vehicle. The operation lever is arranged to operate the coupling member to connect the torque convertor to the gear-train by being moved from the neutral position to one of the other positions. The control mechanism includes a couplingpreventing mechanism operatively associated with the coupling member for preventing coupling when a throttle valve of the engine is in an idling position and the operation lever is moved from the neutral position to one of the other positions. The control mechanism also includes a change-over mechanism associated with the coupling-preventing mechanism for selectively changing-over the coupling-preventing mechanism from an operative state preventing coupling to a rest state permitting coupling whereupon the coupling member connects the torque convertor to the gear-train even though the throttle valve is in an idling position.

4513952 The free-wheeling latch disengages the wheels of power type wheelchairs from the motors to permit easy manual use of the wheelchair. The latch itself is in the form of a manually movable pin projecting into a bore in the side of the hub. When the pin is moved inwardly, it engages a flange structure secured to the wheel axle and thereby locks the wheel to the axle for operation by the wheelchair motor. When the pin is manually retracted, the wheel and hub are free to rotate independently o f the drive system to the axle.

DRIVE MECHANISM FOR CABLE DRUMS Henry Vandelinde, Scarborough, Canada assigned to Swing Stage Limited A drum hoist or winch in which at least one circular cam lobe mounted eccentrically on an axle overlapping the axle is interconnected with a like circular cam lobe mounted on a second axle by inboard linkage whereby rotation of one axle will rotate the other axle in unison. A hoist drum mounted concentrically with at least one of the axles can thus be rotated in unison with the other axle to wind or unwind one or more cables thereon. A preferred embodiment has three circular cam lobes mounted eccentrically on each axle 120 degrees angularly out of phase with each other with an inboard link plate interconnecting a cam lobe on each axle in rotatable relation. A brake mechanism mounted on an axle has components normally frictionally engaged which rotate as a unit. Sliding frictional motion to slow down and positively brake the hoist to a stop is provided only when rotary speed of the axle exceeds a predetermined speed.
