scrap fragments are first decoated and then fed substantially continuously onto the surface of a body of molten metal above a channel-type induction heater. The molten metal is stirred to produce strong down flows at the molten metal surface to submerge the decoated scrap particles. The submergence may be effected by a coreless induction heater acting on the body of molten metal or other electromagnetic device such as one or more linear induction motors which are employed to set up a strong axial down flow at the center of the metal surface or to generate a vortex at that location.
METHOD OF PRODUCING BIOGAS AND COMPOST Armand zerland

In the mesophile production of biogas, the temperature of the liquid used during anaerobic, methanogenic, fermentation is raised to the required temperature (about 35 degrees C.) by aerobically prefermenting solid substrate at substantially ambient temperature and of apmoisture content to raise its propriate temperature to a temperature greater than that required for the anaerobic, methanogenic, fermentation. Thereafter flooding the fermenting solid substrate with the liquid at substantially ambient temperature to increase the temperature of the liquid by heat exchange, and then removing the liquid and storing it in a heat insulated environment to reduce the moisture content of the solid substrate to a suitable degree. The above steps of aerobic prefermenting and flooding are repeated until the liquid has reached the required temperature, and then leaving the liquid in situ to enable anaerobic methanogenic fermentation to take place. In so doing the supply of external heat for the initial warming up of the substrate may be dispensed with, thereby improving the efficiency of the method.
4571260 METHOD FOR RECOVERING THE METAL VALUES FROM MATERIALS CONTAINING TIN AND/OR ZINC Leif Johansson, Stig A Petersson, Bengt 0 Rudling, Skelleftehamn, Sweden assigned to Boliden Aktiebolag The invention relates to a method for recovering the metal values from materials containing at least one of zinc and tin, by smelting the starting materials under oxidizing conditions and reducing the resultant molten bath. The starting materials are first smelted in a furnace while adding flux, to form a slag which is sluggish at selected reduction temperatures and has a Ioh lead contents. The reduction process is carried out while charging solid carbonaceous reduction agent and optionally also sulphur- and/or chlorine-donor material to the slag. The reduction agent and optionally supplied donor material is brought into suspension with the slag, and this suspension is sustained at least during the latter phase of the reduction period, at which the lead content of the slag has fallen to beneath about l-2%, during which phase the reduction of
