A process is disclosed for the ~ydrorneta~~u~g~ca~ treatment of finely divided iron-containing steel plant dusts containing zinc, lead and such Oth&i metal values as calcium, mznganese, silicon, magnesium, aluminum. cadmium, Copper. and he like. The process is carried out by forming an aqueous slurry of the flue dust with a mixed hxviant comprising I-ICI and HEQ4, the amount of sulfate ion concentration being in excess of the Chloride ion concentration and in stoichiomerric excess of that required to sulfate subslantially all of the lead and calcium present. The amount of chloride ion present as HGI sbouPd be sufEcient :o maintain the pH at about 1 to 4. The leaching 1sconducted at a temperature ranging from amb;ent to below the boihng point for a time at least sufficient to effect dissolution of at least zinc and other metali values and form a residue containing ran oxide, Calcium sulfate and lead sulfate.

4 lnetbod of recovering vanadium from an aqueous ammonium bicarbonate solvent strip solution. The metho includes heating the aqueous ammonium bicarbonate solution at a :emperature of from 70(o)@ to IKI(o)C, fo$‘owed by addition of sulfuric acid to control the 3H in the range offrom 6.5 to 8.5 and addition of ammonium sulfate to precipitate out the vanadium.

,* imethod and a device are used to desulphurize and decontammate flue gases in a Charge of solids in counter-current in a washing area (9) yormed a: that place by the cooling down to a temperature lower than t ?’ .ron point, which cooling is due tc a heat ex:hange and a water injection controlied by the ‘:emperature. The product is discharged by the noving charge of sohds which is washed in the Zed screw (13j. The des~~~~~rat~o~ product is Jreferably introduced in the form of limestone in he charge of solids. The drying and partial neating of the wzshed fiue gases are obtained in “he desulphuration apparatus by the preheated ceramic arranged over the washing zone.
