superheated vapors of coolant at a high pressure discharged from the compressor are taken out while separating them by the vortex tube into higher and lower temperature components through energy separation to render most of the portion thereof into superheated vapors of coolant at a higher temperature and the remaining portions into vapors of coolant at a lower temperature respectively, and the superheated vapors of coolant separated to the higher temperature side are introduced into the circuit on the higher temperature side of the condenser and condensated therein, while the vapors of coolant separated to the lower temperature side are recycled to the system, of the cycle, preferably, to the circuit on the lower temperature side of the condenser. Heat may be supplied from the atmospheric air or from the compressor to the vapors of coolant from the lower temperature side of the vortex tube or, in the case where the temperature of the coolant on the lower temperature side is high, excess heat may be recovered therefrom by a heat exchanger for heat absorption.

both of the first mentioned exchangers through an expander and check valve arrangement for refrigerant to flow from the third to either of the first two heat exchangers but not vice versa. A flow control valve selectively connects the other side of either of the first two heat exchangers to the suction side of the compressor while selectively connecting the other side of any one of the heat exchangers to the high pressure side of the compressor to form a refrigeration loop including two of the heat exchangers. Refrigerant flow through the heat exchanger not being used is blocked. 4646541 ABSORPTION REFRIGERATION AND HEAT PUMP SYSTEM Edward A Reid, F Ber Cook, Edward M Winter, Edgar Purvis, Horatio H Krause assigned to Columbia Gas System Service Corporation

An air-to-air heat pump system includes a refrigerant-liquid heat exchanger for heating a liquid. The system is capable of (1) space cooling, or (2) space heating, or (3) liquid heating without affecting the condition of an indoor space, or (4) simultaneous space cooling and liquid heating, or (5) simultaneous space heating and liquid heating, or (6) defrosting the outdoor heat exchanger without affecting the condition of an indoor space by utilizing heat supplied from a stored prcviously-heated liquid.

This invention relates to a cooling and heating system which operates on the absorption and phase change heat exchange principle. More particularly it relates to a continuous heat actuated, air cooled, double effect generator cycle, absorption system. In further aspects, this invention relates to a system constructed for use with an absorption refrigeration solution pair consisting of a nonvolatile absorbent and a highly volatile refrigerant which is highly soluble in the absorbent. A disclosed refrigerant pair are ammonia as the refrigerant and sodium thiocyanate as the absorbent. An absorption cycle is disclosed using the thermo physical properties of sodium thiocyanate/ammonia, absorption/refrigerant pair. Also disclosed is the construction and configuration of a reverse cycle air cooled double effect generator absorption refrigeration system for use with the sodium thiocyanate/ammonia refrigeration pair, as well as subcompositions, subsystems and components that improve the system efficiency and reduce cost.
